It's a beautiful sunny spring day here in south Texas. Too bad I have to go to work

We went to church last night. I personally avoid going to church when "the birth and resurection society" is there.

Begin Bible thumping.

Everybody remember what is being celebrated today, that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and has forgiven all our sins.

End Bible thumping.

I haven't been to church in a long time - I can't stand it over here. The amount of $$ you donate, does not mean you are a better person!!

Happy Easter everyone! Wish it was sunny today up here in the east bay, but it will still be a nice day to be with family!

Funny, that's exactly the way God feels about it too.

Matt 6:2-4 "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogs and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have recived their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what the right is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

How much you give to the Church is between you and God, it's none of my business.

Most people I talk to are amazed to realize that the things they hate about religion are the same things that God hates about religion. Pride, Hypocricy, Gossip, Judgement, ect. are all things that Jesus taught against, and freed us from if we listen to what he said in the Bible.

Don't let stupid people stop you from knowing God.

End of sermon

Nice link

I have a freind who is from a family who refuses to call it "Easter" because they think that means they are celebrating a pagan holiday. They celebrate "Resurection Sunday" instead.

They also don't celebrate Christmas at all for the same reason, Dec 25th is actually the end of the pagan winter solstice festival. Many Bible historians actually place Christ's birth sometime in the spring of 12 BC.

They are the type of stupid religous people I refered to in my previous post.

I'm pretty sure that God dosen't care, about dates or other technicalities. If you know God in your heart, that's all that matters.

Well, that's how we Catholics call "Easter" Sunday. If you are a Christian that's what you celebrate, really.

I caught an interesting segment on the History channel covering this. They said Christians simply decided to make the birth of Jesus "Christmas" on the date that it is as a way of competing with the pagans. The show covered a lot of circumstancial evidence leading to a more-than-likely springtime birth.

I'm a liberal Secular Christian and I just call it Easter, but I know some people who do the Resurrection Day thing too. I don't celebrate Christmas either, not for religious reasons but because it has become an extremely superficial celebration of commercialism.

Whatever you may call it, happy Spring Holidays!

Precisely the reason why my parents don't get "Happy Mothers/Fathers Day" cards and why I don't send out cards and stuff for other "greeting card holidays." I do Christmas, although as I got older the holiday has lost its flair. Thanksgiving I've enjoyed more lately because you get together not because you had to buy presents for each other, but to feast and enjoy the company.

Now that I'll have my own child, Christmas will be VERY special again. I look forward to playing Santa.

Anyways, Happy Easter and Festivuh for the Rest of Yuh

when you really think about it...hallmark holidays are for those who don't see/understand that valentine's day should be EVERYDAY and mother's day/father's day should be an EVERYDAY event...even birthdays...everyday should be your birthday - enjoy living life right? don't you think so? why is any ONE day in particular more special than the one before or the one after it? the fact that your here is enough to celebrate life!

/end hallmark holiday rant

Anyways, my easter was gloomy ... my ol' man is in the hospital for a few more days due to "new information", the stupid doctor called to ask me a ton of questions on a saturday night when i was actually trying to enjoy myself with hubby & TonyW (3 days AFTER I called and left her voicemail) and all it did was rain on the east coast, couldn't even get home due to all the weather till early early this morning...

but on a good note , I got an easter basket WAY ahead of time thanks to a favored easter bunny of mine! still have some treats to eat at home - YUM! and the best part - I didn't even ask for it!

on another note, I typically see Easter & Christmas as ultra special holidays - on the inside...why only on the inside? because my "church" won't be able to speak for me when it's my turn and I know that going to "church", paying a set tithe fee, following the rules etc won't necessarily speak for me either as those are set obligations...when my time comes, I'll have to speak for myself and I do that on a daily basis by obligating myself to "be all that i can be" to/for myself and for others (ie: lead by example, do good deeds, do what you know is right etc)...

Actually, it's whenever the Winter Solstice is, normally on Dec 21st or 22nd. If you look back at the history of a lot of Christian holidays, they coincide with older pagan holidays. It's a lot easier to convert people if they don't have to alter their lifestyle too much. At the time, these were major celebration and a major part of the cultural lifestyle.

For a religious discussion, I'm impressed that this has stayed civil.
