Hey guys! I'm new on the board and have only posted a few times, so I hardly know anyone on here. I live in Canada and I was just wondering if anyone else on here is training up in Canada or even if there is any other Canadians on here. Anyway, I look forward to talking with all of you. Thair81

I now consider New Hampshire in Canada after a conversation I had with a girl in South Carolina over the summer. "Where are you from?" "New Hampshire." "Oh." ...moments later.... "So, what is life like in Canada?" ![]()

I'm from CNZ8, along Lake Ontario, in between CYHM and CYSN (see CFS for decoding). So I guess I'm relatively close to some of you guys.

One more thing, FL410, FutureAviator and drummerboy, how's your flight training coming along? Mine is going well. I'm done the PPL and am now about to start the Commercial, beginning with night flying. I'm looking forward to it. I only have one previous hour of night flying under my belt and I really enjoyed it. It's a bit of different sensation as compared to flying in the day- it was pretty cool. Plus I think runways look great when they're lit up at night. ![]()

I'm commercial Multi IFR. I'm just finishing my last semester of college. If you have any questions about training don't be afraid to ask. Two suggestions for the night rating. Once you get it and are building time for the commercial and the 50 PIC x-country for the IFR try to do as many of the hours at night as you can. When you apply for your ATPL you need 25 hours of night PIC x-country which may be difficult to get in your first few jobs. I know of several people that had to rent 150s to get a few more hours for the ATPL. Also when doing that be careful where you fly. To get the night rating you'll have to have 10 hours of instrument time and this will really come in handy during certain situations. I clearly remember an experience during my first night x-country after getting my night rating. All my night training was done around the city and all the towns around the city, so lights everywhere. Then I flew Calgary-Fort McMurray on a overcast night. The Fort Mac airport is on the south of the town and after taking off and turning south there was not a single light on the ground nor a star in the sky. I was like holy [censored], then remember to fly instruments. Moral of the story is just to be careful flying over some of the very unpopulated parts of Canada. ![]()

Thanks for the advice. I never thought about the fact that I should build up my night cross country hours not just day hours. That's a good point. I can definitely imagine the situation you described with no lights below and no stars above. My instructor told me about the night cross country he does for his students and it involves travelling through some of the darker parts of the area. Considering I live near Toronto in S. Ont., I am interested to know exactly where I will be heading. Ah, I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Hey John Yah I met Paul Accursi once. I did an intro flight with him a couple of summers ago when I was just starting to train. I flew with him out of Stoney Creek airport. So he's instructing at St. Catharines now, eh. I didn't know that he instructed at Grimsby. Are you sure you're not confusing Stoney Creek and Grimsby? Maybe he did, I'm not sure. Let me know. We just have one full time instructor here in Grimsby and one part time. I'm not sure, maybe in the past there were more on the books. So you're just down the road in St. Catharines, eh. I haven't been to the airport there yet but I would like to stop in one day and shoot a few circuits (I can always use some extra practice at landings...plus there fun!). How is your training coming along? Are you too young to solo yet?
