Default Gibraltar Airport

Here are some pictures of Gibraltar airport taken when I was there last month.

Note the road that crosses the runway. When the runway is active, barriers come down to stop the flow of traffic!

West end of runway
East end of runway
Looking north into Spain
Road which crosses the runway
Aircraft taxxing for takeoff
Aircraft taking off
Departing to the east over the Mediterranean sea

Whoa that is tight! I've never heard of a road going right through the airport. Are there any other airports that do that?

I apologize for going off topic like that, it is a slightly painful issue for us, spaniards.
Back in topic: I was there years ago, we got stopped at the runway barriers, the funny thing about it, is that we were inside a bus like the ones in London, red, double deck. Thats how the public buses are (or were) there.

Well I guess that after three years of bloody civil war, 1936 to 1939, with the country devastated, it wasn't very smart to get in a war with the allies. And even if Franco had try that, it wouldn't lasted long, since the axis powers lost the war (Spain was a neutral country, except for the fact that it sent an infantry division to help Hitler in the Russian front. Franco was a big anti-communist) ..
Besides there is no need to shed any blood. Now-days Spain and the UK are close allies, ( NATO, European Union). It should be return to us eventually, like Hong Kong was returned to China.

Mariano - this was never meant to be a political post. If it makes you feel any better, we stayed in Spain for a week and just visited Gibraltar for a day trip. Excellent duty free deals to be had there!

Sorry Dazzler, I wasn't trying to steal the thread , I was just answering Icelandair.
I hope that you had a good time while you were there.
Did you eat a lot of tapas, pescaito frito, and drunk Jerez, (sherry)?
