Default V1...Rotate...Hang on!

Exciting stuff! I love being empty.

Saw 5500 FPM ferrying up to Syracuse one night. I'm sure it was higher at some point, since I didn't notice the climb rate until we were passing through 10,000 feet like 1 1/2 mins after departure...

That was the first test flight for the 57 with winglets so yeah I bet it was pretty much empty. Those things are like rockets!

United 757 climb

ATA 757 heavy

another united 757 on the climb

fun to watch!

Was that in an XR? I've heard that the 135's are pretty sporty?

Anyone know why the 757 can have such a high climb gradient but others can't?
Is it the wing the engines maybe the airframe or the whole package!

Riding in our Lear 35s, I routinely see 5000-6000fpm, even with a good load in back. I saw zero to 9,000 feet in 1 min, 10 seconds one time!

I flew the 757 and 767 and while they were both snappy performers, the KC10 did it better, especially when light.

This is a KC10 on an air show takeoff, around 1983. GW 300,000 with 50,000 fuel, max is 600,000. Set full power (56,500 each engine). Computed rotate about 110, we went to tire speed (204) and rotated! A classic case in "energy management"!

The pix (sorry for the quality but only one known to exist) has the folks in the foreground to give a perspective of deck angle. The airplane is about 500 to 800 AGL, going through 45 degrees pitch on the way up to 60! Gear is coming up and usually got fully retracted about the time max pitch of 60 degrees was reached. Airspeed at that time was back around 120, and dropping fast!

Then we rolled into 60 degree left bank, to unload the wings and let the nose drop. Between the roll, and the power had plenty of flying speed when we rolled back to level flight on a downwind at about 5000 AGL. Have no idea of the VVI as it was pegged out at 6000 fpm.

Kind of fell into the WOO HOO! category.

Opened the Barksdale AFB annual air show with this maneuver for about four years.

That sounds awesome! Now I need to see the picture!

It shows up as a red X for me. Can you paste a link to the picture instead of the line that ends in .jpg? Maybe that will work.

Hmmm...have no idea why it does that...shows up in the post for me.

Try this:

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...0/f4c9d524.jpg

Although this ends in ".jpg" I copied and pasted it in the URL adress line of Internet Explorer and up popped the pix.

The pix is on the Sony Imagestation web site or something like that...a place you store pix that you can then post on other web sites.

Remember to me "Cyber Space" is 1% Cyber, 99% Space!
