Default Customer Service?

Interesting column on customer service. Who are you supporting with your purchases?

My list would read a little differently than MMC's, mostly because my dealings (plural) with David-Clark have all been much better than what he describes.

But I don't get paid to write for a website that has Lightspeed as a sponsor, either.

Wonder if they're currently courting King Schools as an AvWeb sponsor as well?

Interesting take Steve. I found cynicism in a Private Pilot mag. one month where they spotlighted the Seminole, and every picture was of an ATP Seminole, along with a quick blip promoting the school.

I did enjoy this article and found the deeper meaning of it to be worthwhile.

I agree.

The cynicism was intended to be light-hearted. Hard to convey sometimes.

Maybe I could explain a little further.

I am in full agreement with the premise of the article. I am a firm believer in rewarding good customer service with my (meager) purchasing power.

I believe, though, that since AvWeb is a sponsored website and e-zine, it is awfully easy to be misinterpreted when "naming names" in this type of write-up, no matter how good intentioned and "true" the motives of the writer. My cynicism is directed more at the potential appearance of impropriety inherent in this situation, rather than any belief on my part that the author was truly being biased by advertiser dollars.

I have read MMC's articles for a long time, and while I will not say I'm a huge fan, I really don't think he was offering anything other than his actual experiences in this article.

For what it's worth though, about the Lightspeed cust service..............granted, they may advertise on the site, but I've heard similar stories about Lightspeed from people who have nothing to gain by promoting them. This includes more than one person, who has had a Lightspeed headset break, out of the warranty period, and they still fixed the thing for free! So, I'd say his story about them is not just because of advertising bias.
