| If you read the thread 'Late night flying', you already know this, but for those who didn't, we're in Gulf Shores AL. We had a nice flight back home, at a more civil hour this time. At first we were on top in the most intense sunlight you've ever seen. Glad I had my sunglasses with me! Then the tops came up and we didn't go up so I got some pretty good acutal IMC practice. After two short stops we headed on home. Now the clouds are thicker and colder. As we're flying along I'm watching for ice, and notice a ball of the cold stuff on the OAT probe. (If you have your seat all the way back you can see it pretty easy) Nothing on the wings and tail until right before we start down we get a tiny bit of clear ice, which all melts off as we descend. But, wait, this is going way too good. We have the plane in the hanger and the baggage unloaded in record time, so you know something is going to have to go wrong! And it does....the battery in the truck is dead. Yay. So we check the crew car. Dead too. Hey! An Arkansas Forestry Dept truck! Hmm no keys in the normal hiding places. The plane? Nah, it's 24 volt. The semi truck? 24v too. Phhh. ![]() To make a long story short, we finally get a jump and off we go. Check out the pics here: http://community.webshots.com/user/jonathank I'm the guy in the right seat, my dad is the guy with the weird-angled glasses. (They don't fit under his headset...) |
