Default Glass Cockpits or Steam Gauges

Just wondering what pilots these days like the best, glass cockpits or the old steam gauges and why? William

Glass! I do consider myself old school in many ways, but after flying around in a G1000 epuipped C182 for awhile, i'm hooked!

Also, depends on what type of flying you are doing - i am coming from the angle of IFR flying and long XCs...if I was flying an old C185 or something, i'd say heck no - stick with steam gauges!

I like the steam better still. The G1000 is nice to fly though.

Whichever one pays the best. I really don't have a preference, although I don't have that much "full glass" cockpit time, so maybe I just haven't gotten the bug yet.

Happy Birthday, by the way!

As of today, I've determined that I like a bit of a combination!!

I'm flying a 1999 C206 with a GNS-430, GNS-530, and a Sandel SN3308 EHSI .

SWEET!!!!!

The steam gauges work great, and the EHSI coupled with the Garmin boxes really add to the situational awareness. Throw in the Stormscope and TCAS, and you're in there!!!

I'll let everybody know how well it really works when I take it to the Bahamas here in a couple of months!

Never even been inside a glass cockpit. They just weren't a big hit in the 1976 Skyhawk.

It's not bubblewrap dummy, it's an 'interstellar space suit'.

Quick, to my mom's minivan.

Oh, and it's sooo worth it!!! It's amazing the things that you can do with it!

Hit Direct anything on the 530, and it automatically crosslinks the fi into the 430 below it. Select GPS in the annunciator and the system turns the HSI to the inbound course, and centers the needle.

That's the smallest feature, but it impressed the heck out me!!

The we started taxiing and it got really fun...lol.

HSI's I believe are around 8 to 9 to purchase and install. So considering what this Sandel unit does, it is well worth it for an extra couple grand.

Microsoft FlightSimulator 9! I fly it all the time. I like both myself. I really think as for the heavy jets the MD-80 series has the best looking steam cockpits around and i'll throw those up against almost any glass cockpit. Hey, they just look down right cool. I'm assuming they work good too. The glass in the newer GA aircraft does wonders. Thanks guys. William
