| Senior Member | I'm doing some studying for the ATP and I am really wondering about a clear definition for what distinquishes a Domestic, Flag and Supplemental Carrier. I believe if you operate only in the US you are domestic. If you operate in and outside the US you are a Flag operator. But what is Supplemental? And if, in the case of SkyWest, you have a couple of destinations in Canada, are you considered Flag or Domestic? |

| [ QUOTE ] I am really wondering about a clear definition for what distinquishes a Domestic, Flag and Supplemental Carrier. [/ QUOTE ] Part 119 has pretty decent definitions of these. I think they are towards the beginning of the section, in the glossary/definitions area. I don't think you need to know the detailed definitions for the ATP written. |

| Senior Member | Nah, you don't need to know the definitions but they refer to regulations pertaining to these types of carriers all over the place. I just wanted to know where to find out who the FAA designates them. But I still would like to know what carrier out there are Flag, Domestic and Supplemental. Are there many Supplementals? It seems like it would only be Part 135 operators going abroad for charter trips. Thanks L4Lower |

| Supplemental operations under 121 are charter operations. Non-scheduled service, like Miami Air, Champion Air, TMA, and some ATA flying. I actually flew my first charter trip this weekend. Between Newark, Syracuse, and Boston for a basketball team. Very cool stuff. ![]() |

| Old Skool | I'm pretty sure CAL does the Yankees and the Astros charters as well. At leat that's what the newsletter said during the playoffs. I guess CAL is the kiss of death for baseball playoffs..... |

| FedEx operates as a Scheduled Supplemental. It allows for certain things, most of which we no longer use, so the company has been moving towards switching to domestic/flag. The charter operators, Gemini, Polar, World, Atlas, etc, are all Supplementals, as was Flying Tigers. |

| As far as the Canadian destinations go, that depends on the specific airline in their Op Specs. At ASA we fly to Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas. We have special permission to dispatch under domestic rules to these airports. Domestic rules are much less restrictive from a fuel standpoint than flag is. |

A least above 7,500 lbs payload |

| Several years ago I flew a New York Mets charter. One of the flight attendant's son was a huge Mike Piazza fan. So she bought an expensive jersey and was going to have Piazza sign it. Another flight attendant told this gal that Piazza was a big jerk and not to even ask for the autograph. Now...the first flight attendant didn't even know what Piazza looked like...he was sitting in the back of the plane near her gear...and the jersey was in plain view. Piazza asked the flight attendant what the jersey was for. She replied that she was going to have Piazza sign it but heard that he was a big jerk. He grabbed the jersey and signed it and said..."Hey...I'm Piazza". They hit it off big time and he was an exceedingly nice guy. One of my favorite stories. |

| Old Skool | Believe it or not. I've been a Mets fan since about 89 when Gooden, Strawberry, Carter and HoJo were still on the team. |

Currently a Die Hard fan, so I'll definitely be taking a trip down to Tradition Field when I get to Vero in 2 weeks. God I hope Pedro can hold it together for just one year. Please god, please! |
