Default some questions about the biz.

I have two questions. One is how much of a choice do you have as to where you are based out of (at a regional) Do you have to be based out of a hub, or just out of any airport where the airline flys from? My other question, is how does one gain turbine hours? Do you just need to luck out and get a job flying jet aircraft to build these hours?

You have to be based at a hub or wherever they have a crew base so its not always a hub. You can commute from wherever you want. You get jet jobs by Schmoozing. networking, getting to know whoever you can and see what pops up or get a job at a regional. Anyway you dice it it helps to know the right people

when your at the bottom of the seniority list, you don't have much choice as to which hub you'll be based out of (you'll go to the most junior base or wherever they need you)... but as your seniority gets higher, the bids get better and the choice of plane/base also gets better.

You gain turbine hours when flying turbine aircraft, not just jets. Turboprops are turbine aircraft, I believe.

Your domicile may or may not be a 'hub'. Some carriers (Mesa, Skywest) base pilots in the outstations. You may or may not have a 'choice' depending on your seniority in class. Each class gets to pick from whatever bases & aircraft need to be filled at that time. If you are the last in senniority in your new hire class, you will get the last slot.

Any turbo prop operated by the regional you get hired with will fill the bill, as do the RJs. However, PIC turbine is what really matters. SIC turbine is a nice logbook filler, but PIC turbine is golden for the resume.
