It's started!!!!

The last of Pilot recalls are expected to be around June 2005, after which they will start hiring due to retiring pilots, some growth, etc etc.

This is great news for everyone !

Umm, commuting!

(Not that I'm considering applying, I've already been-there-done-that with the NY area commute, and flying a full-month schedule is out of the question for me.)

Seriously, though. How can anyone predict the hiring numbers a year from now let alone ten years from now? US Air and United could go under by the end of next year, which would put a LOT of pilots on the streets. Granted some will probably bail on the industry (and who could blame them?), but a majority will tough it out with another carrier, like Continental. Add in the talk of raising the retirement age, and it gets more complicated.
