[ QUOTE ] Northwest Airlines wants concessions from mechanics Updated: 11/19/2004 06:16:38 PM MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - After winning concessions from its pilots, Northwest Airlines is now turning its attention to its mechanics. Union officials says Northwest wants sweeping cuts in pay and benefits from its mechanics -- as well as the unlimited right to outsource maintenance work. Local mechanics union president Jim Atkinson calls it "an all-out attack on the union as well as its members." Northwest is trying to reduce labor costs by 950 million dollars a year. Two weeks ago, the pilots union at Northwest ratified a new contract that will reduce pilot costs by 265 (m) million dollars a year. Northwest isn't commenting on its mechanics proposal.
