Ah, joining the band wagon! All carriers have had it rough, but if I had to pick one that's reaaaaaly had it bad, it's USAirways. Pilot salaries have been cut on huge order of magnitudes. Highest paid 737 captains are now at $125 per hour, 757/767 highest capts. at $144, and the biggest equipment A330 Capts now at $160. You'd think it would stop... but now, USAirways wants to CANCEL the labor agreements of flight attendants, mechanics, etc. WTF?!?!? ALL groups have given sooooo much, and now, they are starting to squeeze blood out of a rock... by trying to get a judge to cancel their labor agreements. The way I see it, with that many cuts and still losing money, throwing employees down a deeper #####hole will NOT solve the problem. Management, wake up!!!!!! I sincerely hope that the judge turns down the management's proposal to cancel labor agreements. |

[/ QUOTE ] Agree with you that these people have sacrificed hugely. But this is the kind of thing you see with a company in it's death throes. In the past many companies have gone quickly, one day the employees wake up and read in the paper that there is no job to come to. Then they wait for some court to tell them what their final check and retirement will look like. Braniff was an example of that, in a blink it was over. For companies like USAir that put up such a long fight I think the idea is to hang on long enough that someone will come in to acquire all or part of the operation. In a way it is the only hope the employees have of continuing their careers. So maybe there is some upside to hanging on by your fingernails and buying time. Clearly that's what the pilots are hoping as they give concession after concession. |
