Hiya everyone, 안냉 Im going to be headed to Korea (south) pretty shortly, and would like to get a heads up on some of the flying over there. Any information on FIR, ICAO airspace rules, as well as any possible outlets for rental. I'm looking at RKNN as a possible location to get some flying in. I'm comm/mel/sel/ifr/hi-perf etc. If anyone has flown over there (military) or civi, please advise. ![]() 당신의 모든도움에감&# 49324;다립니다 |

The rules are fairly different. You also need to learn ICAO English, the version of ATC English we use in the U.S. is NOT standard to the rest of the world. I would recommend you get a copy of the Country rules from Jepp. There are general ICAO rules (PANS-OPS and PANS-RAC), Meteorology pages, ATC pages and country specific ATC pages that can be obtained via Jepp. You might inquire with them on any other stuff they may have available. I have never flown VFR there, but usually such flight is really restricted. They also have some serious prohibited areas there. Learn their procedures well, as an incident or accident in Korea (as most of the rest of the world) can land you in prison, literally! |

Korean ATC is, well, different. [/ QUOTE ] I once needed to take a jet from Osan Airbase to Suwon AB...a grand total of 5 air miles, hell they're controlled by the same RAPCON. I wanted to just depart and and land, but I was told no, I needed to file an 1801. So I ask for takeoff, tower-to-tower, then land. No. I needed to file an 1801 with ATC. You gotta be freakin kidding me! For you US people, imagine having to file a flightplan to go from San Diego Montgomery Field to San Diego Brown Field.......or to go from Chandler-Stellar to Chandler Muni. But, that's their nitwit rules. So far as VFR, there's a few places to do it in Korea. Most of that country is MOAs and restricted areas, everything else is a fly corridor connecting one town to another. And over there, the MOAs are somewhat treated like Restricted areas depending on the day. One biggie, do not penetrate any of the Prohibited areas there....specifically P-79 or the other one around the presidential palace....a warning on the Kimpo and Seoul AB approach plates always warned "Aircraft penetrating (RK) P-79 will be shot down." Also stay out of P-518, the buffer zone to the DMZ, for obvious reasons. |

Hiya, I just wanted to Thank you guys for responding. Yeah, it definately sounds like it's a whole new ball game over there. Nothing impossible, but different, yes. Looks like I'll be headed there soon, so when I find out more, I'll let others know any info I have etc. Thank you both for taking the time to reply. ![]() -Perp |
