Default Uno mas pregunta.

What steps do you have to go through to file an IFR flight plan? I have always wondered this and what credencials or such do you have to put? do you have to put your license # on it or your medical #? just kinda bored and I'd thought I'd ask.

Thanks,
Clay

You just call the local Automated Flight Service Station, choose to speak with a briefer, and give the correct info as requested on the FAA flight plan form. You have to be a instrument rated to file IFR, and the flight plan has a space for the pilot's name. No license # or medical.

I realize that but lets just say for example, I am on a flight from KAUS-KBRO its VFR along the whole route, but I want to save fuel so i break the law and file IFR to get up to 250 or so. If no one finds out about it whats the point?

Join the Air Force, maybe they can teach you some core values:

USAF Core values:

1)INTEGRITY FIRST
2)Service Before Self
3)Excellence in All You Do

Seriously, if no one knows you're falsifying your logbook, what's to stop you?

It's about character. Self-respect, honesty, respect for the laws of our nation (to include FARs). If you don't possess these traits, perhaps you shouldn't fly ... or many other things.

no worries guys im not planning on doing that its just that particular question has been bugging me alot lately I dont know why but it just seems maybe someone needs to make laws stricter regarding that issue maybe put in a blank on the form saying pilots license # and then someone check it. but whatever I dont need to worry about this for about 3 years

That would do little if, anything to stop that practice. We need to be able to self-police (for lack of a better term) ourselves. If one is willing or thinking about breaking the rules and filing an IFR flightplan w/o the rating, they may just fly without filing the flightplan at all. I would worry about it because if I am flying IFR and some yahoo is doing so as well without the rating it would bother me.

I have seen this too many times before when I was flying cargo...Just don't do it unless you want to end up dead someday....

I have had several close calls on IFR days while shooting an approach into an uncontrolled field. You have joe blow buzzing in and out of the bases in the pattern. I break out and nearly run the guy over on final. Yes it was well below VFR mins.

I had another close call while flying for the airlines. We received a TCAS RA while we were in the soup. It appears that some yahoo was trying to get on top and didn't think he needed to call ATC. We got the RA right before ATC began screaming about a collision alert and telling us to climb also.

The last I head ATC tagged the airplane and would find out who he was if he went to a controlled field.

Those two reasons should be reasons enough not to fly IFR w/o a flight plan and the rating.
