POH vs PIM

Hi all,

Can somebody help me clarify the differences between Pilot Operating Handbook, Pilot Information Handbook, and an Owner's Manual? I think the information in the POH looks similar to PIM to me, then how come it calls differently?

I might be way off on this since I haven't thought about this in a while but a POH is aircraft specific and must include the N-number and aircraft serial number and is updated with equipment changes while a PIM is just a duplicate copy of the POH and is not kept current or contain serial numbers. As far as an owners manual, I think thats just another term for the POH. Don't quote me as a reference if you get asked on a checkride though

I've never heard of this myself, all I've ever known it as is the POH. I'd be interested to know more myself.

POH is the manual in the plane that refers to that current plane. It has to include current weight and balance for example. PIM is more of a vague manual of that model type. Somebody correct me if I'm slightly off but I'm sure thats the main difference.

Humm,

My Aeronautical science professor said that the POH and the PIM are just names, but they are the same book. (PIM that the consenses of this thread is talking about)

He said that the AFM (Airplane Flying Manual) is the specific book for each and every plane. (The forementioned POH of this thread)

I know at riddle, the AFM's? are relativley permantly secured to the seat with a long cable so you cant remove them. I never actually looked at the cover to see what it was called. (DOH!!) I just made sure it was there during the preflight.
