Default Layoffs at AA

Here is a little more specifics on who will be affected by layoff at AA. This was just released today. I have copied and pasted just a few lines regarding this.

[ QUOTE ]
The Kansas City Maintenance Base will be reduced by between 300 and 400 maintenance positions and St. Louis Line Maintenance by between 200 and 250. We expect furlough notices to be issued commencing mid-November. Additional reductions will occur in Line Maintenance throughout the system, but they have not yet been determined.

We anticipate furloughing up to 450 pilots by the summer of 2005. The first 125 will be furloughed on Jan. 6.

We know there will be downsizing at some of our airports, and we are working through which locations and how many Customer Service positions will be impacted. We will know more when the 2005 schedule is finalized.

Due to attrition, retirements, and planned flying levels, we plan to make Flight Attendant adjustments through voluntary leaves beginning in January.

In addition to almost 400 management and support staff positions eliminated so far this year, we will make further staffing reductions, which we are now evaluating, as a result of these initiatives.

I think they've had a high number of people getting fed up and quitting. As well as people starting to hit retirement age. If they need voluntaries they shouldn't have any trouble getting people to bid it. From what I've heard morale is at an all time low.

That announcement is about as oddball as this e-mail concerning Delta.

[ QUOTE ]

Hey everyone...

Just thought I would give you an update on our situation here at Delta. The rumor is that Monday we will file for CH. 11. Many of our supers have said it is a very high possibility. Everyone here seems to have the general idea that it is coming Monday. The only way to avoid the filing Monday would be for pilots to give consessions which they may do.

Anyway...the rumor isn't just among agents or f/a or mechanics...its among everyone and everyone seems to think it is coming Monday...Thats all I can say...

Hopefully, pilots will give consessions and keep us afloat for a while longer out of CH11...

Have a nice weekend...and to all my fellow DL emp.'s good luck monday.

Uh, hate to break it to the author of that email, but pilot concessions alone won't keep DL out of Chap 11.

There's a lot more to the picture.

This and the cancelled aircraft deliveries probably means a reduction in expected hiring and a long upgrade, in the 7-10 year range. Not good.

When I was first hired by Simmons/Eagle (1995) upgrades were in the 8 year range.

Does anybody know if AA has pulled or will pull their ad campaigns since they're not going to have the More Room Throughout Coach feature anymore? Also, I just read from a news site that they're warning that they may layoff more in the future even after the 1,100 cut in jobs.

But of course.

And its not that I'm resentful towards the flowbacks...its not their fault they were furloughed, and its not like they WANT to come to Eagle. Its an option they are given, and are within their rights to take. The fact that the option even exists, is what sucks.

Anyways, there is almost zero chance any Eagle pilots will be furloughed, and I'm not going to give myself an ulcer over constantly-changing upgrade times that can't be accurately predicted anyways. It was down to late '99 DOH's upgrading until now, and no one was hired from something like the end of '01 to early '04, so the upgrade time was getting better. Maybe not so anymore...we'll see.

Let's be fair here, guys. All the regional guys were bitching about not having the opportunity to "flow thru" and move up into mainline. Part of flow thru is flow back, though no one ever envisioned the need for that. Continental had the same thing.

How am I being unfair? I just said that I don't feel any resentment towards flowbacks. If you think what I had to say is unfair, you should hear how some others treat flowbacks. Its almost embarassing. There's absolutely no reason to be bitter towards an individual for flowing back, just like I said above. They were furloughed, which royally sucks for them, and then were given the option of taking a lesser job to support their families, etc. which they are well within their right to accept. Its not like they collectively decided to come "invade" Eagle just for the hell of it.

I personally think both a flow THROUGH and flow BACK sucks.
