Default WTFO!?!

[ QUOTE ]
A man's body was found early Friday in a wheel well of an American Airlines jet from Miami landing at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

The body was found about 1 a.m. EDT by an airport worker after passengers had disembarked. A cause of death and identity for the man, who was in his 20s, were not immediately known.

Detroit Metro spokeswoman Barbara Hogan said the flight originated in the Caribbean. She said it left Miami about 9:45 p.m. Thursday and landed at Detroit Metro about 12:50 a.m.

The Wayne County medical examiner's office was conducting an autopsy, she said.

American Airlines spokeswoman Jacquie Young said the body was found in the left main wheel well of the Boeing 737. She said the circumstances surrounding the death remained under investigation.

People have attempted to stow away on flights in the wheel wells of airliners, a practice made particularly dangerous by severe temperature and pressure conditions.

They told us in ground school to check the aft avionics compartment for "stowaways" during preflight, when at certain airports down in the Caribbean. Seriously. Apparently people trying to flee certain countries have been found hiding back there on more than one occasion.

I watched a show on the discovery channel about a man who lived through a flight from Cuba to Florida in the wheel well. Very interesting indeed!

There were security vehicles at the departure end of the runways at all airports in the Dominican Republic - to prevent stowaways from climbing in to the cargo bins!
