Default Twin Hire

Heres the situation.
My friend and I both have FAA CPL Multi IRs, roughly 300hr each. We're looking around for some multi engine aircraft to rent for some touring around the US.
Now if he acts as a safety pilot while I fly under the hood, will this mean we can be exempt from the high insurance requirements nowadays of 100 total multi etc..?
Or does this safety pilot actually have to be from the company we rent it from? And therefore not fly together at all!

Thanks

uhh, If neither of you meet the 100hr multi req., you will not be allowed to rent the plane, having one person act as safety pilot won't change that.

the only way to rent that plane would be to get a MEI who meets the insurance req. to go up with you, or find someone else meets the 100hr. req. thats willing to split the time with you.

below is our rental requirements for the duchess, you can find lower than 100 hr mins, if you shop around.
----------------------
Multiengine Pilot w/ Instrument rating AND

300 Total time AND

One of the following -
A) 50hrs multi w/ 10 hrs in make & model + MEI checkout OR
B) Less than 50hrs multi - 20hrs dual in Duchess
