| Not bad. Not much difference steady state versus gust. It gets "sporty" when it's 35G54, which I've done on line. |

| Grand Forks was gusting like 37 at one point. Wreaked havoc on my golf game, still managed to make some money though. |

[/ QUOTE ] We won't allow studs to solo in more than a 15 knot wind or a 6 knot crosswind component. We used to have a policy that no renter could rent if the wind was blowing more than 25kts, but the did away with that. |

| Holy cow. I was up in a 24 kt wind the other day on my first solo. My first solo up here anyway. I though it was fun only moving along the ground at 20 kts. Tom |

I wish we had some of that around here in The armpit of the US (Florida that is). |

| All of Chuck's students are above average. I haven't found an old METAR but someone came in from SGU yesterday and said it was gusting to 60. |

| I was out flying on friday and saturday in a 172 doing approaches in KCDC and KMLF I swear my buddy took a picture of it on his cell phone GS on the garmin was 170 knots and the DME as 171kts heading north on V235 to MLF from CDC I was setting up for the approach into KMLF we did a circle to land with wind gusting around 40 knots but it was down the runway however going back to CDC took some time I ended up doing slow flight backwards at one point. I did have to land back in SGU and it wasnt to bad when I landed only 40 degrees off the centerline around 20 kts gusting around 29kts. I have watched Skywest and Lifeflight nail there landings at SGU with 90 degrees off centerline and about 40 knots of wind those guys are good! |

| Normally, operations won't cease unless a) there is severe turbulence, b) windshear, or c) winds are so excessive that no runway will allow landing due to crosswind limit exceedence. If the high winds are associated with any kind of weather (storms, etc.) then we probably won't be flying. But if it's just wind on a clear day, we'll go. In the SF-340, we practiced max demonstrated crosswind landings of 35 knots in the simulator, and have done the same with a max dem. crosswind of 30 knots in the EMB-145. We also practice windshear avoidance and escape on takeoff and landing, which is much easier in the EMB-145 since we have a windshear computer which provides escape guidance through the flight director. |

[/ QUOTE ] If it's just winds then you look at crosswind limitations of the airplane. As long as you can stay within that you go. If it is winds and precipitation then your crosswind limits may get lowered based on braking reports. Most cancellations I've experienced are related to freezing precip or vis below minimums. Hurricane cancellations are done on a system basis, usually. Decisions to delay, ie not accept an approach clearance or takeoff clearance have almost always had to do with thunderstorms/windshear and just involved waiting a while until they moved on. |
