In an effort to acquire aircraft more compatible for US Forest Service requirements, Minden Air of Nevada, a forest fire contractor that currently flies P-2 Neptunes, has acquired a "new" aircraft that they're evaluating for conversion to the mission: The BAe-146-100. They say it has merits. http://www.recordcourier.com/apps/pb...News/109150013

Makes sense. Fast cruise speed = more drops.

Just as an added item. I dont know how much retardant weighs, but, water at 6.5 lbs pre gal as a usable figure would make the loads look something like this Current A/C c-130 P-3 PE-7 all at 3000 gal of retardant @ 6.5 = 19,500 lbs BA 146-100 {load from fact sheet] = 19000 lbs So the loads should be close but with a speed advantage for the 146 If the wing and airframe can cut it . Should be a good trade. http://www.zap16.com/images/G-SSHH.jpg
