Just wondering if anyone owns a plane that they lease back to their local flight school, and what the insurance costs annually?

If I remember right commerical on a 172 was 6 to 6.5 and the 172rg was around 7.5. rough figure around 10% of the value of the plane. buddy had a light twin cessna 310 with commercial insurance about 10 grand. The best advice is do your homework and talk to owners who leaseback there planes to fbo's or flight schools

Think very carefully about leasebacks before you do it. Find out if the FBO pays their bills, else you might find yourself paying them to get your title clear. If the FBO even gives you a whiff of being a "shoestring" operation, RUN. Furthermore, you have no idea just how bad a plane can get trashed until you see what renters to to them. If you're stretching to buy a plane, I recommend you get one good partner rather than do a leaseback. It will cut your bills 50% with a hell of a lot less abuse and financial risk. |
