I just don't see how it's possible that it would even get close to getting through.

I mean it would effecively shut down every inner city airport down creating a pretty dense wasteland and thereby losing countless jobs for cities that intend to continue to grow based on airport/airpark facilities.

The republicans will never allow this to pass...

It would outlaw corporate jets.

This won't pass and I'm sympathetic to your message. But it does remind me of when Richard Nixon almost destroyed general aviation in the 70s. We were facing a fuel "crisis" and Dick thought that the way to solve it would be to tack a 50% surcharge on aviation fuel and other luxury fuel uses, like boats. The result was predictable, Wichita was laying off people as orders for aircraft immeditately stopped and/or were cancelled. FBOs were in a crisis. It was ugly and the surcharge was quickly cancelled. Of course the administration claimed they just didn't know such bad things would happen. ?????

The only thing John McCain is a Republican on is national security.

On most other issues he's a RINO.
which is why the media and democrats love him so much.

Don't forget, he's an asshat who was a POW so you arent' supposed to call him an asshat!

Had an interesting conversation many years ago with one of McCain's former squadron mates. He thought he was an asshat too, and supplied documentation! It really kind of shocked me and has colored my perception of him ever since.

Here's the latest from AvWeb's Business Newswire today:[ QUOTE ]
...the first opportunity for the Weiner bill to advance would be today when the House considers legislation implementing recommendations from the 9/11 Commission. Weiner could try to offer his bill as an amendment to that legislation, but the likelihood of his success is low, according to observers. Meanwhile, the TSA has made it abundantly clear over the last couple of years that it does not consider GA aircraft to be a threat to national security, even though the agency has not yet made itself heard on this legislation. The good thing is that Congress won't be in session much longer this year. The bad news is that Weiner, whose congressional district is centered in the New York City borough of Queens, faces what is widely considered to be token opposition in the coming general election. Do you feel secure yet?

BizAv Newsletter Sept 15 (scroll halfway down the page for this article)

AOPA (and other alphabet groups) have been on this one pretty hard from what I've read. I think you can stick a fork in it now, it's done.

Maybe you could get some of your neighbors over there in Queens to unelect this guy, eh RABIRZA69?

Here's the best part of the article: "Meanwhile, the TSA has made it abundantly clear over the last couple of years that it does not consider GA aircraft to be a threat to national security,..." It'd be nice if others could listen to what the TSA says, at least on this topic.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't we established that an airliner slamming into a building will cause more damage than a Cessna?

[/ QUOTE ]

If the Cessna is laced with some C4 then it wouldn't be your average Cessna. Sure it wouldn't cause twin tower type damage but if GA planes carrying a high explosive like that is popping into buildings, crowds, etc. all over the nation then we'd be in a pretty pickle.

Unfortunately, you could make the same case for motorcycles, SUVs, Ryder trucks, and run of the mill automobiles. In fact, some of those would cause MORE damage. However, Joe Average has day-to-day contact with those (some of them couldn't live without their gas guzzling SUVs), so you'll never see an expose on the news about that. GA is a very niche group, therefore it's easily targetted.

September 15 - EAA and other aviation organizations saw their Congressional education efforts pay off today, as Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) said he will not introduce a bill that would have devastated general aviation activities.

I can't see Barbara Streisand or Alec Baldwin buying an airline ticket.

I think there would have been bipartisan pressure on this, had it been introduced.
