Looking for a good flight school

I have been looking around florida for a good flight. I have checked out DCA - "could not stand all the promotional ad BS on the tour, I walked out." Regional Airline Academy -"they were 1/2 built, and expensive, not impressive though", TAB Express" very expensive, sounds too good to be true, but interested", Pheonix East- "planes looked quite beat-up, but the price is good, ATP-" looks good with all the multi time, but how can you learn all of that in 90 days, is that a smart move???.. It took me like 60 days to get my instrument. Now I'm stumped ! ! ! I have 160 hrs my private and instrument. Give me some ideas if you could ! ! Thanx

Well, you made the right decision not to waste money on Delta Connection Academy. I have heard good things about ATP from several people. I haven't heard much about the others. Good luck in your search for the best school.

Tab Express is a place to give a bunch of suits your money, and get nothing useful in return. Dont do it.

I'm a CFI here in SLC and work with a guy who went through ATP. Of the schools you listed, I would certainly go to ATP. It may not seem like it now but the number of multi hours that you will get will be worth their weight/price. Look around some more but one impressive thing about ATP is more people, by the sounds of it, finish on time and on budget. That is better than 90% of the places out there.

Tab Express told me that they just got their 121 cert, now they can get their airline running, I contacted the FAA Orlando FSDO and only one of their three beech-1900's are 135 cert. The 135 cert for the 1900 is new. What kind of BS are they feeding people over there?

probably the kind they don't expect people to notice! smart people like you (whose done research and verifies information), just saw the writing on the wall.....

good for you on checking that out and noticing the flaws BEFORE it was too late!!

ie people: it's ALWAYS a good idea to check, recheck and verify ALL information.

Hello ladies and gentlemen...this is my fiirst posting since I registered a while ago. I kind of wanted to introduce myself along with my life's story to all here, but instead Ill cut to the chase since I figure everyone here shares the same life story and its ultimate goal.

I am a recent Engineering College Grad planning to pursue/begin my flight training between January-June 2005 (depending on financial situation).

I am looking to enroll/complete a professional pilot program from A- (zero flight)) to -Z .

So far Ari-Ben & ATP's professional programs are on the top of my list respectively. Schools such as Flight Safety, and Phoenix East slowly left the list. I see most here lean strongly towards ATP.

Finally, fellas, any suggestions are greatly appreciated, I understand that listing the schools without emphasizing on them may be to vague for discussion for those not familiar with the schools mentioned above.

Huh, I was just about to post something similar, so I'll just tag it onto this to keep it all together.

I'm heading down to Florida in December to check out flight schools. I'm gonna hit up ATP, Ari and FSI. Does anyone have any other idea's for schools to check out down there? I'm going to finish my commercial, multi, CFI/II/MEI down there, and hope to do it within 4-6 weeks. Any other good schools to check out?

EDIT: And I guess Arizona would be another place for me to look into if there are any good schools out there.

If you're interested in Arizona... I recommend Angel Air. It's a small place with 7 instructors and 10 airplanes. All the planes are new... I know a lot of people dislike spending the extra bucks for new equipment... but it's the same as going to Pan Am or Westwind. The facilities are brand new... and they are extremely nice. The reason I went there... I liked the instructors. Best instructors I've ever had. It was well worth the extra money dealing with a group of instructors and staff that are now some of my best friends down here. A special trip to Arizona might be overkill to check this place out... but if you come down here to checkout the DVT flight schools (panam, westwind)... drive down and check Angel Air out too.

John, if you're in the area, check out Air Orlando. They don't have a "program" like Ari or ATP for the CFI stuff, but they do have some good instructors, and you could probably still knock it all out in 4-6 weeks. Unless another hurricane ruins your plans.......

I'd suggest Air Orlando too.. when doug and I went there to rent out a plane, they were really helpful and I got a good *feeling* about them....it was well over 5 years ago.. so take it for what it's worth (not a WHOLE heck of a lot!)....

Arizona = Sheble Riviera Aviation at KIGM (Kingman, Az). Very inexpensive and they get stuff done. No BS. I highly recommend them. Here's their SITE.

I'd recommend Sheble too... but there is one small problem that they're running into. A good friend of mine works at Sheble and says that they're running into problems with there sims at the moment. The FAA might take away the sims certification because they're so old. The only thing this will affect is the instrument course, but it's something you may want to ask on before you decide to head down there.
