So I was watching the Apprentice and was thinking How could we make up a cool new reality show about pilots. Have about 15 men and women competing for an job with a Major or Regional. Im sure Fox could really spice things up a bit with it. What would be some off the wall contests or tasks that you would think of? Suggestions anyone?

Something jogged my memory and I remembered Kevin Garrison had done this for "CEO of the Cockpit" (See AvWeb) Among his jewels: "So far we've pitched a show about a trans-gendered international captain with a social anxiety disorder. We thought it could be a combination of "Monk" with "Ru-Paul" and we could call it "Queen of the Skies".

[ QUOTE ] I'm a HUGE Kevin Garrison fan! [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I'm trying to drum up readers for him, more: "By the way that is my new retirement job," said Jim. "I'm going back to Los Angeles with Greg here and will help him develop a great show about a retired airline captain that fishes a lot and solves crimes. He will have a flight attendant sidekick named "Bootsie" and with his dog, "Barnaby Jones" he will use his airline experience to make the world a safer place. Fox is going to call it: "Captain Crime" and it'll be aired on Thursdays, right after "The Simpsons."

Remember "American Fighter Pilot?" Probably not .... it was on for one episode before CBS pulled it due to dismal ratings. Little known but true factoid about this show is that it was funded by an oil company .... they had a good year and some corporate guys voted to reinvest a good deal of the profits into producing this show instead of dishing out bonuses. The lessons here .... (1) the American public in general probably won't watch a reality show on what it takes to be a pilot and (2) oil executives shouldn't produce reality tv.

they should show how hard it was for them when they were CFI's like their students messing up and having the CFI or the Pilot candidate doing a 30 ft unusual attitude recovery, and pritty much the training that goes with being a professional airline pilot.

| Was watching a "Great Biker Build Off" episode on Discovery the other day and there was a commercial for a new reality series due to start soon called "Wing Nuts." Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be about flying, per se, but it concerns these artists/furniture makers who turn old airplane parts into furniture. Might have some great shots from airplane boneyards and such. As far as ideas for a reality show, I always though that one of these producers could find some character-filled mom and pop fbo somewhere and create a show called "American Flight School" kinda in the vein of "American Chopper" or "American Hot Rod." I mean A&E has all those family-owned business reality shows like "Dog the Bounty Hunter" and "Family Plots" which is about the mortuary business for crissakes. One problem, though, is that I would think not too many flight schools would want to open themselves up to public and nationwide scrutiny from FAA nitpickers.
