Default Bill Me Later...

Maybe I am just behind the time, but when did this start?

[ QUOTE ]
From now through December 31, 2004, when you purchase online at americawest.com with Bill Me Later®, you'll have at least 90 days to pay your balance in full with no interest. If you do not pay in full by that time, you can opt to pay a portion of the balance and interest charges will apply from the transaction date.

With America West’s everyday low coach and First Class fares, service to over 90 destinations in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Costa Rica, and no payments for 90 days with Bill Me Later®, it’s easy to take the entire family on that trip you’ve been dreaming about.

Bill Me Later® is a convenient and secure payment method that doesn’t require use of a credit card and allows you to buy now and pay later.

Buy Fast, Feel Secure. Select Bill Me Later®! Here’s how:

When you’re ready to purchase your tickets, select “Bill Me Later®” under “Payment & Contact Information” on the Purchase screen.

I saw that the other day! I think it's a cool idea. But I couldn't do it because my credit is too young, and I think they run a little credit check.

Obviously engineered to appeal to the 'load up on stuff now, pay later' attitude of a lot of people.

"Come on hon, it's "zero" percent financing, no payments until October 2005!"

Just like those "90 days same as cash" scams. When you take 91 days, they apply 18-19% intrest retroactivly, and plenty of "finance fees". Now it will take you a year to pay off your new big screen!

Here's an idea, save your money for 90 days then pay cash!

If you absoultely can't wait use a regualr credit card.

yeah.. but even a regular credit card charges the same amount of interest...it's just not calculated like the 90 day scams!

It's hard to argue with this. Financing is a huge profit center for other consumer activities. There are going to be more ways to squeeze blood out of this turnip.

Ain't that the truth! What's up with this country that we can't wait a whole 90 days, save the money up, and then pay for it ourselves with cold hard cash? Or if we really want to win out, put it on the credit card then, pay if off at the end of the month, and collect an extra month's worth of interest on our savings?

that’s flat out un-American! How could you even suggest such a thing?

buy now + pay later at high interest rate + living beyond your mean’s = the American dream!

That's a whole 'nother debate. But it does seem like travel is one of those things that often is required on short notice (family illness for example) so I think this is a nice feature to offer. Plus having this feature along with a nice special to some tropical beach could be very enticing. What you want to bet it gets copied?

Oh, it's been around for a while.

My travel reservations engine at nonrevcentral has offered that for months.

But as per the agreement, I can't chose to not include the feature.

I'm thinking about renting some of those 19-inch rims that keep spinning when you come to a stop sign! Woo! I'll be the flyest thing in the rent-a-center parking lot!

Yeah, boyee!

Yup. Why not make a little more money on things? Hell, the frequent flyer programs are one of the few things that make money for the legacy carriers these days, so why not let people pay you not just for their tickets, but interest on it!
