Default NBC\'s new show \" LAX \" some things uncalled for!

http://www.nbc.com/nbc/LAX/index.shtml

" Security breaches, tearful reunions, illegal immigrants, missing children, runaway animals, drug busts, drunken pilots -- there are countless stories to tell in "LAX." "

Drunken pilots like that in a TV show. Now is that really necessary?

I can see it happening already: some idiot who watches this show, goes to travel by air, 'hints' at the sobriety of the pilots. Pilots forced to call up chief pilot, explain situation, piss test, more drug test, flight delayed, etc, etc. ***ALL*** because some punk "saw it on TV."

Or is it just me with this viewpoint?

Sounds like more sensationalism, which translates to ratings, which translates to money in media mogul's pockets as well as stock holders..

What's the new catch phrase for all that? "Real TV" or something?

Yeah, but the boys get to look at Heather Locklear and the girls get to look at Blair Underwood. So I think the show will do okay.

Two more reasons to ignore network television yet again!

Yeah, wellllll, I've always found the inaccuracies of television "aviation" pretty grating. Unfortunately there have been some high profile alcohol cases in the news that would be pretty tough to top with fiction. The latest I remember was a crew of drunk Russian flight attendants that were abusing the passengers on their flight. I mean, come on, it's hard to complain when truth is stranger than fiction.

BTW, I don't see the need to flip out if a passenger makes a comment. If they are standing and accusing you in front of other passengers that's one thing. If it's a lame attempt at humor, that's something else. Give 'em a smile and appropriate rebuttal (doesn't have to be hostile) and carry on. It's happened to me a few times, no biggie.

Well then it's probably time for self-defense. I mean I can understand them accusing me with my red nose and beer belly, but you Doug?

I can't remember the exact circumstances, but it involved a belligerent passenger, we followed the 'full procedure' as noted in the "Up Front" digest, ascertained this, contacted that, called those, etc.

It's really interesting how the process works. And if you've been drinking, you're toast without a doubt. We both knew it was a belligerent passenger, but once certain triggers were pulled, the game was 'on'.

Not fun. I'm usually fairly 'teflon'-coated because of my personality, but my poor captain was REALLY pissed.

Luckily we had a long layover in PNS so I met him down by the pool for a, ummm... well, beer.

Whenever I see him in passing in the crew lounge, we both walk up to one another without smiling, do the 'sniff sniff' and hilarity ensues.

Yeah, it's just going to happen occasionaly. I had an FO go ballistic after some goofy lady stuck her head in the cockpit and say something (that I actually thought was pretty funny). It was clearly her attempt at joking with us. But it took me a while to calm my partner down and convince him we didn't need to make a big deal out of it.

This new show will likely generate some more "issues".
