Default Ratings and add-ons Question

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but isn't this what this webboard if for. Hehe.

I was curious, is there only one ME rating and instrument rating, for all types of licenses? Let me explain, you get your Private, and then instrument, and then ME. So your a Private ASEL/AMEL/instrument, okay no big deal...

Now this is were I get confused, after you get your Commercial, do you need to get an ME add-on/rating again, because your now a commercial pilot? Would you need to do the same for an instrument? Or would the ME and instrument still be "valid" for lack of a better word, with your commercial?

Because my CFI said he did his Commercial in a ME airplane, then after got a Commercial ASEL add-on. Really got me wondering.

Hopefully that isn't too confusing. Thanks for any feedback.

On your multi ride you will have to shoot a single engine instrument approach in order to get multi-engine instrument privileges.

If you have your PPL in a catagory or class of airplane , then you must get a seprate comercial liscense, same for instrument. For example I got my private single and multi, then I had to get my comercial single and multi

If you already have your comercial, airplane single engine land for example, you can skip directly to comercial single engine sea without doing the private.

The only differance is the check ride has slightly higher standards, but it's worth the effort to go ahead and get your comercial.

This goes for all catagories of aircraft. You can get your CFII helicopter in as little as 80 hours if you already have CFIA/CFII.

edited for spelling

In your scenario, you would have to redo your ASEL and AMEL checkrides at the commercial level.

Provided you demonstrated instrument proficiency on your Private AMEL and do not have the "Multi-engine limited to VFR only" limitation on your Private, then you will not need to do any instrument work on your Commercial Certificates.

So in short, aircraft ratings do not "carry over". The instrument rating does.

What if you demonstrated instrument competency on your PRIVATE multi ride? Will you need to demonstrate it again on your commercial multi ride, or is it up to the examiner? Not really concerned, just curious (I'm about to go upstairs and consult my PTS, but would appreciate feedback nonetheless).

Thanks!
