| The WSJ has a great tounge-in-cheek riposte to NWA's new ticket charges. Among the suggestions: Tray-table-usage fee and Smooth-landing pot: As an aircraft begins its descent, the captain's hat is again passed through the cabin and passengers are encouraged to contribute to a smooth landing. The bigger the pot, the more care the cockpit crew will put into touchdown. If passengers don't pay, slam that Boeing down hard, and tell the folks in the rear to hang on tight. Of course, smooth-landing fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. But if the pilot bounces the landing even though a sizeable pot is collected, each passenger can apply the collected fee to a future flight, minus a $100 change fee. Get the whole thing at: http://online.wsj.com/article/0,,SB109389441544204747,00.html?mod=yahoo_hs&ru =yahoo (registration required) Needless to say I could have made my company a fortune with that smooth landing fee over the years. | Old Skool | Well, we could also do something else along those lines. There could be a pot for "additional training fees." And the passengers could dump money in there for every time a pilot bangs it down hard. Either way, there's more money! |

| Old Skool | Hmmm, maybe they should do a 50/50 raffle on planes now :-D Would be a good source of income for the airlines. |

| Old Skool | Back to the smooth landing thing. The more I think about it, the better I think a slam dunk landing would be better. Jar the change out of people's pockets, and have the cleaning crew put it all in a jar. Hell, for some of that passengers on there, you'd double your profit margin on them if you got another quarter from them! I think I'll send this idea to US Airways. It makes as much sense as a lot of their hare-brained ideas! BTW, Boeing ain't all American made. A lot of the 7E7 is going to be made in Japan. |

| [ QUOTE ] How come you guys like Boeing better? [/ QUOTE ] Mainly, I just don't like Airbus because it receives massive (and illegal, IMHO) government subsidies which give it an unfair advantage over Boeing. Airbus has never had to compete on a level playing field. While this arguably was tolerable when it was start-up, Airbus is now bigger than Boeing and should be required to sink or swim on its own.
