Is this true? (AirBus nomenclature)

Hello All,

I read in AIRPOWER magazine that AirBus refuses to use the number 7 in the name / model number of any of its aircraft. It seems the case so far, but couldn't this just be coincidence? And are they going to continue sticking with the 300-series just as Boeing is sticking with the 700-series? Anyone know the real scoop?

Hello Lain,

I can see Airbus NOT starting a model number with a 7. But to not use the number 7 at all seems childish. I would never confuse an Airbus 317 (if there were such beast) with a Boeing 717. Oh, well, que sara, sara!

But I like just being able to say the *numbers* of the plane model, i.e. 737-300 or 733, or 320, or 717, or 300-600...and you know what I'm talking about. I think if the 3's were less inherent with Airbus' makes and the 7's less inherent with Boeing, I would lead a sad existence indeed. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]
