[ QUOTE ] demand that the jumpseat privilege for the few be DISCONTINUED [/ QUOTE ] This was a key sentence for me, sounds like the guy is mad he can't jump seat. Probably pissed off because he had to pay $150 for a LAX-EWR ticket and “some glorified bus driver got to jump seat free…” |

[ QUOTE ] Speaking of jumpseating, when is DAL going to go to unlimited? [/ QUOTE ] No idea. Considering we weren't even able to jumpseat before 1996, I suspect it'll be a while. |

[ QUOTE ] DON'T MESS WITH A PILOT'S JUMPSEAT PRIVALEDGES [/ QUOTE ] Don't mess with our privileges, either. When I was doing IOE, our trip ended in LAX and the four of us were to DH back to PHX. WN had two flights leaving before our scheduled one, so the other CA and I jumped home. Our FAs were saying it wasn't fair that we got to leave early, so I told them both that for the low, low price of $100,000.00 they could jumpseat too. Ended that discussion. Just because I didn't buy the actual ticket doesn't mean it isn't free. |

Just to clarify, when you say jumpseat, are you using it to mean going standby, IE on any seat of the plane? I have heard it used to mean sitting in the cockpit (extra seat). Now, what about deadheading?

I know I'd hate to be stuck up there on that tiny thing for two-three hours. I flew in the fourth FA seat from PHX-MSY, and I wanted to strangle somebody. |

Dead heading is what you do when your airline buys you a ticket to move you from Point A to Point B. Non-revving is what you do to travel from Point X to Point Y when you're not working. Jumpseating basically means you're hitching a ride, usually in reference to another airline, and sitting in the front or back. In the post-9/11 era, you can only sit in the actual jumpseat of your own network's carriers. This will hopefully change soon, but in the meantime, jumpseating normally means sitting in row 78, seat B or E. |

[ QUOTE ] t's still a hell of a lot better than missing the flight. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, John. Don't get me wrong, I was happy to get on the flight any way I could. I was just making the point that I didn't see why people would sit on a jumpseat by choice. |

[ QUOTE ] I was just making the point that I didn't see why people would sit on a jumpseat by choice. [/ QUOTE ] Last year jumping from PHL to LAX, I was praying I'd get the jumpseat. The thought of sitting in a middle seat for 6 hours ... no thanks. Lucked out and got the last seat in first. Twas my lucky day. |

[ QUOTE ] I was just making the point that I didn't see why people would sit on a jumpseat by choice. [/ QUOTE ] When I came back from the Reno Air Races a couple years ago I volunteered to sit in the F/A jumpseat. There was another guy behind me on the standby list, and if I rode jumpseat he would get on, if I refused and (what would have been my right to do so) wanted the pax seat he would not have made it on. I didn't mind taking the jumpseat because the seat left was like 32E. So I had my choice of sitting in the nice spacious aft galley of our 737 (albeit in a stick-straight seat with NO recline), or being cramped in a middle seat the whole way (no thanks). I gladly took the jumpseat, was more comfortable, and another non-rev got on the flight. Everybody won. |
