Default Cancel an air show because of a baseball game?????

[ QUOTE ]
In the list of threats to national security, would you include a U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon, a U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornet, an Ohio Air National Guard C-130 Hercules, and the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team?

Those are some of the performers scheduled for this Friday's opening of the Cleveland National Air Show. But believe it or not, the FAA and the TSA say the law requires them to prohibit those air-show performances. Public Law 108-7 prohibits air operations within three miles and 3,000 feet altitude of a Major League Baseball game. The Cleveland Indians are playing that Friday night in Jacobs Field, about two miles from Burke Lakefront Airport. Because of that, the FAA and TSA say they can't let the show go on.

And the final ironic note: The Cleveland Browns are also playing next Friday. Their National Football League stadium is located less than one mile away from Burke Lakefront Airport. But the government has determined that Public Law 108-7 doesn't apply. It's only an exhibition game.

It's no different than when Bush flew with the Navy. He wanted an F/A-18 backseat, but the Secret Service demanded the S-3 so an agent could ride along, presumably because the President of the US can't be trusted alone with an officer of the US military. What a bunch of utter BS, all of it.

Burke has a rule of no touch and go traffic to from one hour prior to one hour after tribe/browns games. But this is kinda silly....

Default Cleveland air show gets half a decision

[ QUOTE ]
The FAA decided to split the baby. In a decision not really worthy of Solomon, the agency now has informed the Cleveland National Air Show organizers that they will be granted a waiver allowing the military acts to perform this Friday evening, but the civilian performers will have to stay on the ground. Organizers say they'll cancel Friday's twilight show if they can't get all the acts in the air.

[ QUOTE ]
At issue is Public Law 108-7, enacted at the insistence of Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and the Division 1 schools of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Ironically, the law, which prohibits flight within three miles of a major league baseball, NFL, or major NCAA game, was couched as a "security" measure, but it also prevents banner towers from flying advertisements above sports stadiums.

[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
If the FAA continues to prohibit air-show operations while a major league game is going on, Cleveland National Air Show organizers say the future of the show is in doubt.

AvWeb chimes in:[ QUOTE ]
FAA representative Tony Molinaro told AVweb the agency has no choice but to ban the flights because of a Cleveland Indians game scheduled for Jacobs Field on the same evening. The air show happens once annually. The conflicting game is one of 162 the Indians will play this year (missed games will be rescheduled). The air show attracts 60,000 to 100,000 fans. The Indians averaged 21,358 fans per home game, last year. (How's the math working for you, Cleveland?)
