| Old Skool | [ QUOTE ] It is not like Boeing or any other aerospace companies do not get government money. [/ QUOTE ] There's a difference b/w government contracts and government subsidizing. If we were feeding tax dollars into Boeing to keep it alive, the public would have a fit. Look what happend over the whole 767 deal. Airbus has a history of "questionable" government deals. Most recently the French government paid to have a road widened through Toulouse. Was the traffic bad? Nope. Airbus needed to get the pieces of the A380 through town. Back in the 80s, Airbus took millions of dollars in government loans. They have yet to pay back one franc/marc/euro/whatever. Why? The loans were forgiven by the government. Man, I wish I could get my student loans forgiven like that..... We now conlcude the Boeing v Airbus arguement from Kellwolf. Please carry on. |

[/ QUOTE ] Except that Boeing has to compete for those contracts with other government contractors. It's not like the Feds just hand Boeing money and say this is a loan, but you don't have to pay it back until your airplane becomes profitable. Hell, if they did that, we'd have had the Sonic Cruiser! |

| [ QUOTE ] No Boeing/Airbus debates allowed. This isn't that other POS website...... [/ QUOTE ] You're absolutely right. How about having a discussion on when NW will replace their DC9's instead? I'm far more excited about the 7E7 than the A380 or now the A350. I can't wait to see the 7E7 fly. Technologically, it's a very exciting plane. I also can't wait to see what it finally looks like. I hope I'm not in for a disappointment. At least it won't be as ugly as the A380. |

| I used to think the same thing about Airbus, and the french, until something they said on NBC at the olympics changed my mind (and I am paraphrasing here) "Although the Greeks disaprove (sp?) of our way of government, they make a clear distinction between the people and the government, and have been very warm and welcoming to the US." I have come to realize that Jauqe (sp?) Chirac doesnt build airbuses, its the engineers who do, and actually its not really french at all, its a consortium, one that includes Japan. Now we all know that Japan is pretty much the best at making cars. Im not saying anything about airbus- I have never so much as touched one, nevermind flown one, so I have absolutely no way of saying "I do/do not 'like' them. If someone were to offer you a job flying airbuses (Airbi? lol!), are you gonna turn it down? Also, Falcon is French, and I love looking at falcons. |
