Default A couple of questions about the order you earn....

Hello,
(This all applies to people training for a flying career). In general, is it ever a good idea to earn your Multi or Commerical before your Instrument? How about your CFII before your CFI?

Guess it depends on your individual financial situation and access to planes, but a commercial certificate is very little good without an instrument rating and you need 10 hours of instrument training anyway (for 61).

The CFI/CFII debate is in a fairly recent thread, if you want to search back a couple of weeks.

I got my CFII before I got my CFI. Made it easier to me, as I wanted to go into the Initial FI checkride with my strongest area. IFR is kind of my specialty, so to speak, so that's how I approached it.

Now, one particular JC'er hinted that the only people who do that are folks that are weak on their VFR flying. I counter with the only people that don't do it that way are weak on their IFR flying....

There's nothing wrong with it....you just won't be very employable until you get both of them.

Sure. ATP runs their pro pilot course this way, pretty much ('cept for the comm before IR part). If you're going to do all your training in a twin, it's best to knock out your Pvt AMEL first, so all remaining dual can be logged as PIC instead of just dual received. And the Comm AMEL ride doesn't include all the performance maneuvers that the Comm ASEL ride does, so it's generally an easier ride.
