| F/O Training Costs? I am going through the thought process here on attending ATP soon, and was curious once I get on board a regional, what kind of FO training costs can I expect? I have great credit, but only 21, I'm not shure if I would qualify for an extra $15k loan after ATP. Once hired, do they expect the training costs up front or is it deducted from your pay? Just curious on how this works. |

| Re: F/O Training Costs? If you worked a Desked job, Would you pay them for the first few days/weeks as the trained you?
If not, why are you willing and expecting to do it for an airline job? |

Since he mentioned a loan, I think he's thinking ahead and trying to figure out if he will be able to afford the payments if he has to pay for FO training....that being said:
If a company charges you for your training, run away. FAR away. Some regionals will pay you for your time, but they won't pick up the hotel room. Some regionals don't pay for either. Personally, I don't like the way that some airlines (cough)Pinnacle(cough) handle how they pay people in training. Mesa doesn't cover the hotel, but they at least pay you while you're in ground school. Not sure what Mesaba, CHQ, SkyWest, Eagle, etc do. |

First off, don't expect to come out of ATP and go right to a Regional Airline... No matter what they tell you...
Second, do NOT go to any Regional Airline that makes you pay them for your training. |

Yeah that was a huge turn off for me about Pinnacle. I was all set to go there as a street captain. They offered a hotel room (but no pay during training) and $100/wk pr diem. I almost thought that was acceptable.
Then they withdrew the captain offer and said I would have to pay for EVERYTHING.
Adios. |

| Re: F/O Training Costs? CHQ provides hotel rooms throughout, per diem for the first month, then guarantee thereafter. ID the first week so you can jumpseat, US Airways travel privileges while in training for non-revving, and travel privileges appropriate to your base once you are based. Benefits (medical/dental, etc.) start 30 days after your hire date ... or about halfway through training, typically. One of the better deals for pay and benefits during training in the regional industry, to the best of my knowledge.
By the way ... for those looking for a regional job. I was hired at CHQ four months ago ... there are already some 130 pilots junior to me on the seniority list, I am a solid lineholder in my base (which is NOT some hole like BUF by the way), and I spent exactly two weeks on reserve before receiving a hard line. We are now upgrading 2002 hires. No junior manning, excellent travel privileges. This is a pretty darn good place to be ... |

| Re: F/O Training Costs? Yeah, I wouldnt say CHQ is the PLAce to be. It certainly a great company, but its just not the right time. Its not the place to be now, not because of CHQ itself, but just the unstable waters of 3 of our partners right now. |
