Default Anyone know how much a PPL for helicopter costs.

Does anyone know an estimate on the top their head. I guess it's to late and I'm to lazy to search the web.

I think this would be a cool thing to do. There's things I like about planes and things I like about helicopters. Haven't tried helicopters so I would like to try it out sometime. Of course there's the whole issue of $$$$$$. Just curious

Thanks

http://www.hillsboroaviation.com - a pretty decent sized helicopter school in the northwest.

Thanks for the link montanapilot.

169/hr for a Robinson22. That comes to about 7000-12000 dollars. Thats a pretty big chunk of money for me to spend to only fly helicopters for training and then stop after getting the license.

Mabey I'll strike it rich as an airline pilot.

Has anyone done this through and FBO or school? When do they actually let you takeoff and fly the thing?

Thanks

I took a demo flight in an R22 a while back. I picked up flying the helicopter in cruise flight pretty fast, it seemed the less control input you add the nicer it flew. Now hovering the damn thing was another story! But when I found out how much it was going to cost for training and what a lot of pilots earned once they had those jobs I was thrown off. I still love helos thought and plan on getting a rotory add-on when able.

I would like to get the license, but I think once I solo that will do it for me. I just like how they take off, at least the takeoff where they give it full collective and pitch down to hold it like 20 feet off the ground. I think that would be kick a#%.

I suppose for less money I could take a warrior out in 70 mph winds and hover like that. Try it in flight simulator for any of you who have it. Granted real life is going to be different and if I was out in 70 mph winds. There's probly more going on than just wind.

My school has three Schweizers, and they seem to be renting out pretty well. You can get the rotary as an add-on to your commercial or private I think. It's cheaper to rent the Seneca than it is to rent the brand new helicopters, though.
