| Junior Member | It's been a dream of mine for more than two years to be able to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I got accepted in February and was offered scholarships. It was great. Now, nine days away from moving into my on-campus apartment, I find out I'm turned down for a private loan which would have taken care of my first Sallie Mae monthly payment of $1810.42 and covered some flight training hours. I'm running out of options! I've been trying to apply for private loans all summer, only to be turned down because of my young credit history and my co-signers' bad credit. No word on whether I won any $500 scholarships from essay contests until the day before school. I need a little more security than that! Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could try to do at this point? I already tried to cancel my meal plan and get $1300 (rough estimate) back, but I had only 21 credits transfer from my last school, which makes me a freshman requiring the biggest meal plan they have.......... Anyone wanna give me a dollar? Any advice on finding a credit-worthy co-signer or finding money to pay for all of this, please let me know! |

| Call up ERAU Financial Aid, they are very good at getting money... I know a lot of people who went to Riddle that I thought could never afford it... Don't give up, you can make it work... Falcon Capt ERAU-PRC Alumni |

| Junior Member | Thanks for the encouragement! I keep trying to tell myself the same thing, but it's harder today for some reason. Maybe it's the sore throat. I'm such a baby! I'll call them tomorrow since they just closed their offices for today. Or maybe I can e-mail my finaid counselor right now. |

| Old Skool | Hang in there, keep on asking around, as Falcon suggested, hopefully, ERAU will be able to help you out. As for the sore throat, we can take up a donation of cough drops! Just trying to cheer you up... |

| I was having problems getting money to go to UND. Their financial aid office was very helpful. They thought of things I didn't think of trying. It basically came down to mostly loans. But I'll have a descent job while there and should be able to pay it back before or just after graduation so no interest will be charged. Tom |

| Well I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm involved in ROTC, Band, and Bussines Professioanals of America. I get good grades and am getting more and more service hours. I'm sure these things will facilitate my way into college. |

| Junior Member | I have a solid streak of A's on my transcript from SUNY, and did so much community related work that I fell asleep like a little puppy in between classes and meetings. It does help tremendously to be a part of so many organizations and clubs, and to make good grades. It did pay for about 1/3 of my total college bill! There are, however, only so many merit scholarships you can aqcuire with the right timing, you know what I mean? On a side note, someone please show me a picture of an airplane so I feel better. I think I'm coming down with something. Let's get those coughdrop donations going! |

| Why dont you look into another school? Riddle does offer excellent training, however, in my opinion it is not worth the 130,000G's especially when the airlines dont have a preference. |

| Junior Member | But I have 9 days until I go to my apartment! It's so close! I've waited about 700 days! I e-mailed my financial aid counselor. We'll see what she has to say. Hopefully I can get this all taken care of. |

| I looked at embry riddle first, then I met a NWA captain who said to check out UND. I liked it better. One reason was their programs were similar and UND was cheaper. The other reason is I would not like going to a school where everyone studied the same thing. Plus the guy to girl ratio is higher. Not that I need that though. I guess the only advice I can give you is to get student loans and a job while in school to try to pay them back before they charge interest. Which I believe is 3 months after graduation, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Tom |

| well, based on my 4 month experience here in JC, have you ever considered a Local FBO, ive been told THOUSANDS AND COUNTLESS of times by JC members its a lot cheaper and that the airlines do not care about where you get your ratings, and at the same time go to a local state college or soem party school and enjoy life or something, Im currently 16 going to be a senior in High school, wiht 8.8hrs towards my private....I TOO wanted to go to ERAU or UND but by my JC BUDDYEs talked me out of it....best of luck to thee, and I have a feeling this post is gonna last...
