[ QUOTE ] I was hoping this wouldn't turn into a drawn-out argument regarding *school choice* in relation to financial resources. I wanted to discuss ways of finding money to finance what I want to do. I want to go to Embry-Riddle. I'm nine days away. This is no time to decide that I should attend another school! [/ QUOTE ] Do not worry when people (especially here) suggest schools - everyone here has an opinion what is best: for them, for other people, for non-aviators, for flight attendants, for everything . You certainly by this time would have done your research and made up your mind, so go with it, and if you need anything from anyone here we will do what we can to help you - and all we will ask is for you to pay it forward. For the Sugar Daddy just email me email@IainHolmes.com

Cristle, The reason people say something to fall back on is this: You can get furloughed (completely out of your control). You can loose you medical (partially out of your control) You airline could be driven into the ground financially (completely out of your control) Now tell me what are you gonna do to make a decent living (obviously not $7/hr flipping burgers) if 1 of those three things happens while you are at an airline? That aeronautical science degree is not very useful outside of the aviation industry. Getting a degree outside of aviation has nothing to do with giving up on your dreams or settling for second best. It has something to do with being smart and not putting all your eggs in one basket.

Stay the course Cristl. If you have to put the aviation career on hold for a period, you won't be flipping burgers for $7/hr; Not with a bachelor's degree and not with your drive.

| Junior Member | Airlines fail, just like businesses in other areas. But I doubt the entire industry is anywhere near going under. And has any attention been paid to all the new operators coming in with their new cost structures and ideas? It's evolution! I'm far from being afraid of not being able to make a living, if anything contrary to what I have planned happens. Just ask how I grew up! I learned long ago not to be motivated by fear. That would be exactly what I would do if I tried to get a more market-friendly degree. grrr.... |

[ QUOTE ] And ouch, I don't understand why I would go out and find something to "fall back on"! That would be a great way to give up on myself and my dreams, at least in my opinion. I don't believe in "playing it safe". Life is so much better when you take risks. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly... Does a Lawyer go to Medical School "Just in case"? Does a Doctor go to Accounting School "Just in case"? Does an Engineer go to Law School "Just in case"? There are plenty of jobs in aviation that you can do with an Aeronautical degree... Besides, 10-15 years out of Business school and zero work experience in the Business environment (because you've been flying) how many people do you think are going to jump to hire you anyhow???

I'm jelous. I cant wait to fly an instrument approach at night through clouds and pop out at about 300 and see all those lights. I especially like the "woomp" lights. That's the noise those lights would make if they made noise. You know the sequencial strobes that flash rapidly toward the runway. Tom
