| Does ERAU have a work-study program? |
| |
| | #27 |
| Junior Member | Ew, I just got done attending a party school. Maybe my experience was worsened by being a Resident Assistant. I wanted to yell at everyone, "YOU'RE A STUDENT, GO STUDY INSTEAD OF STAYING AT THE BARS UNTIL 4AM AND SCREAMING 'WOOO' FOR NO APPARENT REASON!!"Alcohol busts were fun, though. But then I never slept. I understand the economics of going elsewhere or going to the FBO down the street (literally, in my case), but I have had my heart set on ERAU for a long time now, and I have always done my best to follow my heart. Of course, if something really bad happens and I can't go, it is still in my heart to learn to fly, and I will accomplish that, no questions about it! |

| No. Actually UND is going to cost me a hell of a lot less. Tuition is cheaper than the Iowa universities (my state). And airplane rental and instructor cost I think is about the same. But I would rather fly a nice plane than some 30 year old P.O.S. Believe me I fly one now and it sucks sometimes, it is worth the extra 5 or 10 dollars an hour. I'll be doing their aviation management program. The degree its self is in buisiness. But if you like flying junk, go ahead and go with the FBO. Some have nice planes, but the ones that do are way more expensive than UND. I'll have plenty of time to fly junk while I'm a CFI. Right now I would like a little quality. Tom |

| Oh Contrere' UAL, I did some canvasing of prices, itll cost me 11K to get 55 hrs in a C172SP at my FBO, and I added everything, so for around 30K I should have my commercial, and even ratings on various type of SE aircrafts. It would be a lot quicker to get it done in an FBO, Im goign to get my ppl and instrument before I leave high school by next June 2005, for around 15K. AT UND (Which I recived their packet) it would take 4 years or even a few summers to get 285 hours and ppl-MEI. and a total of 98 thousand including flight, board, food, and allowance, even state tution, STILL CHEAPER THAN ERAU, though... |

| [ QUOTE ] I already tried to cancel my meal plan and get $1300 (rough estimate) back, but I had only 21 credits transfer from my last school, which makes me a freshman requiring the biggest meal plan they have.......... [/ QUOTE ] You're at least a 2nd year student so I'd be raising hell right there. There's no reason they shouldn't allow you to at least bump the meal plan down. |

| Buy yeah I was considering attending UND, since my former (and CURRENT) CFI were grads, one of em now currently taking a new hire class for skywest. (according to MirVc). he said UND offeres good quality education, he said he had all his ratings when he came out in compariosn to an ERAU grad who also works in the same FBO only had a commercial and had to get his CFI, CFII, either way, either school they both still had to become CFI's for an FBO, for more money at the FBO he works for. But I would not want to travel to Grand Forks, however the chief pilot for Horizon is a UND Grad, so that might helpy ya. either way Best of luck to you UAL, and thanks for being a member of the "Young guns of JC" |

May 28th 2003-Private Pilot June 7th 2004-Commercial Pilot, Instrument Airplane, Multi and Single Engine Land July 27th 2004-MEI July 28th 2004-MEII August 1st-CFI So in 1 year and 3 months, I am finished with everything. I am not going to lie, it is expensive to fly here (as long as pretty much everywhere else) but if it costs you 11K for 55 hours, it is much much cheaper here at UND. |

Did you ever check to see if there are 337's or if the ADs are in complaince? Do you even know what a 337 is? Or are you just judging by the paint, interior, and pretty Garmin 430? Academy planes get just as much abuse as FBO ones. Academys rake it in and are able put nice paint and factory reman engines in their planes. Does it teach you to fly better? I dont think so |

The courses in Meteorology, Aircraft Systems, Navigation, Engines, Flight Physiology, Aeronautics, Aerodynamics, Aircraft Performance, Advanced Avionics, Global Navigation, Crew Resource Management, Safety, Accident Investigation, etc... You won't get ANY of this at your Local FBO... Remember there is more to your training than hours and dollars spent... No doubt ERAU & UND are expensive, but to compare going to ERAU or UND as being equivalent to "Going to your local FBO and attending some party school".... Puulleeaazzee!!!!!!! I think the average Warrior goes through an annual every 2-3 months. You will not find a FBO that can say that. |

| as for the party school I just got that idea from people in JC saying enjoy life, I did not mean literaly, like go to a state school that would save you more money at the same time enjoy life, also planning to major in something like education, or real estate soemthing to FALL BACK ON, as mentioned several times in JC. |

| Junior Member | How would an industry as massive and necessary as aviation "fall"? I was hoping this wouldn't turn into a drawn-out argument regarding *school choice* in relation to financial resources. I wanted to discuss ways of finding money to finance what I want to do. I want to go to Embry-Riddle. I'm nine days away. This is no time to decide that I should attend another school! Okay, now you can donate a dollar to the Cristl Flies Fund (CFF). | Junior Member | And ouch, I don't understand why I would go out and find something to "fall back on"! That would be a great way to give up on myself and my dreams, at least in my opinion. I don't believe in "playing it safe". Life is so much better when you take risks. |

| Have you looked at Key Loans? They have pretty descent programs. It's lousy that flying costs so much and returns so little monetarily. On the bright side, it's fantastically rewarding mentally and emotionally. I dig going to work every day and don't regret changing careers for a moment. Aside: My wife wondered if I was participating in this thread because of the woman with 'the really cute smile.' |
