I want to get a good camera but cheap in price. I want it to be good for taking aviation pics. I also want it to zoom in and out quickly. Do you think digital or non-digital(film) is better? Any ideas??? Could you get a good camera like this for a cheap price?

If you're looking for both fast and cheao, then probably film is your best bet. Digital camera on the lower end of the spectrum usually have a lag of as much as a second between when you push the shutter button and when it actually takes the picture. Same with the zoom lens. Most lower level digital camera use a motor that you control, and they're not known for being fast.

As far as reccomendations, any Cannon Rebel will do the job. The later models have a lot of bells and whistles, and the earlier models are dang near bullet-proof. Also, the interchangable lens ability is great when you want a telephoto lens for your airplane shots, and then something a tad wider for your family pictures.

And if you're willing to spend the money, the Digital Rebel is a great camera as well, but definately not as good as my 10D.

If you want zoom go with film, unless your willing to fork out $500 +. You may also want to think about the long run how much film is going to cost you, my digital camera has cost me nothing except for larger memory sticks.

If your aiming towards a.net I'd use a digital. I have a cheap little $180 camera, that has not problem getting the type of pictures I take on a.net. I had the second most popular picture of the day there yesterday and have about 120 pictures there total. It's just a Kodak CX6330, 3.1MP's and 3X optical zoom. I'm not the kind of person that could spend five or six hours at the end of a runway taking pictures though, my pictures are all of cockpits, cabins, unique airplanes, or other unique shots, which is why I have a camera with no zoom. If money does matter then I'd recomend a Kodak Easyshare DX6490.

Run a seach for "Kodak DX6490" at a.net (just type it in as the keyword) and you'll see how many guys there use it. It's a good camera for a beginner. If you can afford it a lot of guys use the 300D, but it's not cheap.

Not necessarily. My Fuji has a 10x optical zoom, and I got it for under $300. I never used the digital zoom, cause it looks like total crap. I got some decent shots of some aerobatic routines at Sun N Fun with it, but I'm still learning how to use the darn thing. It's got more modes than I know what to do with. It also has interchangeable lenses for telephoto and wide-angle (sold separately of course).

I actually just bought a Kodak CX6200 (easy share) and it has been great. It only has digital zoom so I don't use it often but wow what a camera. I was fortunate enough to get a free tour of Niagara Falls from a Cessna 206 since I train with Niagara Air Tours. It was probably my first or second weekend with the camera and it turned out amazing, I will give you a line to the pictures when I can. I don't use it a lot for just airplane pictures because I'm not too close to a large airport but if you can get close enough then it works good. Plus it was only $115 CAD. Just realize the Kodak digital camera can go through batteries like water!

What is cheap for you? When talking about cameras it is hard to put cheap and good together.

You should be able to get a good enough camera for that much.

Yeah, you can get a super camera for under $400. If you're going digital, I really really like my Fuji Finepix S5000. It's a little big for point and shoot stuff, but I've got some decent action shots and killer stills. You can find some of what I've taken here . My wife takes most of the still stuff, so if you want to see those, I can throw those up there, too.
