I heard from a CFI here, that it's possible to listen to radio stations (music) using the ADF... I find that sooo cool. I'm gonna try that tomorrow morning. In the mean time, has anyone here done this? (yes, this may be old stuff, but it's definitely new to me )

Never thought about the frequency band of the ADF and that 'ident' selector on there? ![]() One of the first things I learned on cross countries was the ADF. It was almost sport at my last company to keep a continuous flow of music tuned in as we're droning around the great lakes region. |

Yeah - there are rarely any good stations though. I once listened to the Laker game (with Ed, and JonnyB), got 1070 for the traffic, as well as once I got Disney, and listened to Britney Spears - that was probably the best.

The funny thing is that I found out about it when a friend was on a x-country and her CFI told me about it, lol. So yeah, I guess there was a reason for knowing it! Ah yes, x-countries. |

I listened to the Laker games the last year Chick Hearn was still alive. I remember flying over Staples Center while they were playing their games and Chick was giving play by play. I also listened to a game of there on 570KLAC on ADF all the way out to about Bermuda Dunes. Thats quite a distance from Los Angeles. I guess us being up at 15,000 feet helped with the reception? I miss chick!

At night the reception I have gotten went up dramatically. From near Bangor, Maine at 8,500' I was receiving 1210 Philadelphia (The Big Talker, 50,000 watts) and a station in Cleveland. Both several hundred miles away, coming in clear, and the needle pointing at them. Neat stuff!

I recently flew in a mooney who's owner hooked up a MP3 player into the headphones and intercom. Talk about cool, this thing made NDB's obsolete. I did request Danger Zone but sadly it wasn't in the playlist.

The Arrow I flew for the last part of my CSEL, and that I'm flying for my CFI, I like to take on x/cs where practical as it has an AM/FM + CD player in the panel. I'm lovin' it... Sarah |

Flying back overnight from ABQ to PHX, I couldn't pick up the local PHX AM stations, but I could get Los Angeles stations pretty good. Little "night effect" goes a long way.

You can even navigate to the radio station’s location using that old nav aid – or the nearest t-storm! |

I was on a flight from MA to CA when we started attacking Iraq, we listened to the news on the ADF the whole way there.
