On all of my training evals during initial, I was "coached" because I couldn't say the callsign first every time. I thought the AIM said to say it first or last, but I guess that's wrong. I try to do it "right" now, but still screw up every now and then. -mini

| Old Skool | The callsign first is to get in the habit for when the guys fly into and out of the main sort in Columbus. Helps the controllers there recognize whose reading back sooner. Yes I know controllers can get by everywhere else but it really isn't that hard for the pilots to adjust. Back in the day the sort in columbus had close to 50 something airplanes. Now it's down in the 20s but it still is a mad dash in and out and pretty impressive to someone that has never seen such a thing. |

I try to do the callsign first, but if I don't I'm not going to let it ruin my day, but now that I know a better reason of why aside from "it used to be in the AIM" I'll do my best to do it more often. .....being half-mentally-challenged like me, I'm still likely to screw it up, but that's aight. -mini

| There is also an approach controller at CMH that does somewhat of the same thing. He will use our flight number before our company callsign. I think it helps a bit, it gets my attention quicker when I hear my flight number first. However, I haven't heard him doing this the past few days. |
