Hey AMF guys/gals, I start BIGS in Burbank on 1/7/08. Really looking forward to it. Does anyone have a scan of the W&B pages from the Chieftain and/or 99? I wrote a PC program years ago to do W&B and I'd like to begin to get a feel for the loading parameters. I'll share the program if you'll share some data... ![]() Is anyone else starting BIGS on 1/7? Let's get in touch. Question about shoes. What do you guys wear for comfort/waterproof/survival issues versus complement to the uniform??? Also, AMF facial hair? Any policy? Thanks! |

Enjoy Bob's indoc class, he's legendary at Amflight. Good luck trying to get the W&B into a PDA, I know a 99 guy that did it but it took him a long, long, long time. The paper stuff works fine and you can do a W&B in under a minute in the Chieftain without much of a problem. Just carry a calculator with you and you'll be fine. I wore Sketchers dress boots and Dickie's navy blue pants. No facial hair, you'll have to get rid of it before your ride. You'll also be wearing a uniform when you're at work and if you work outta Burbank...otherwise no other base wears the tie ![]() Enjoy, the training is excellent. |

Wait. AMF makes their pilots wear a pilot uniform? ![]() Wow. ...Why? ![]() -mini Last edited by minitour; December 30th, 2007 at 01:58. Reason: smiley's added to hopefully remove the "smartass comment" appearance - that's not what I was going for |

I'm sure someone will chime in here but I've been told it's because of the UPS contracts they have.

I was always told it was because the company president liked the look of the uniform.

The only competition is with yourself. Doubtful that there would be anybody else around here. There are not a ton of Amflight pilots on here. |

I used to wear the whole dickies pants and boots deal. The dickies fade to fast and the uniform looks tacky. So I've changed to dress slacks and a sturdy pair of dress shoes with rubber soles. I jumpseat a lot. So I make sure I look sharper than the RJ pilots when I walk through an airport terminal. The dickies just weren't cuttin' it. The target specials work ok, but they are having a hard time holding up to being washed over and over again.I keep a clean face. I think that you probably could have a mustache it you'd like. | |

Yes you have wear a uniform And a stupid tie Don't worry bout a PDA W&B do it by hand besides you get real good at it if you fly 101 or if 132 comes back to life. Trust me I know You get to wear nice navy blue janitor dickies pant. And a stupid tie Did I mention the tie is stupid Wear a coat you don't care about to protect the nice white aviator shirt My uniform now is under a big black Carhart Artic zip up bibs and a blue carhart navy sweater which is under a old goretex jacket and no tie You can tell I hate the uniform and the tie doesn't make sense when its 10 below in Jackson Hole freezing your hole off unloading dirty boxes! Enjoy BIGS and don't let Bob get to you Some of the funnest flying and great friends will be made here Enjoy! |

Navy Blue, you can have mine if you want. Amflight finally requested my badge back and took me off of PTOC status!

JayAre, Is a guy going to be on reserve right now out of Burbank, or what's the most likely route(s) the junior guy is going to carry? |

You won't be on reserve. Plan to head to OAK or PDX tdy for several weeks. My first three weeks was at BFI in Jan. To be honest it scared the #### out of me. You won't see reserve in BUR for a long time. Also plan to leave between both ONT and BUR. When you get the 99 you will be dual based there. Enjoy it! BTW I really can't remember what happened to my tie. I think I tossed it out the window when I hit the stateline leaving Cali waving the finger also. |

Bob absolutely loves guys who ask tons of questions - even if he seems cranky at first just keep asking. He'll love you by the end of groundschool.

Bob loves questions, it's the fastest way to get you noticed. Do the W&B by hand it'll be faster and after two weeks on any run you'll be able to just plug in random numbers by memory and always be in CG. Also when thinking of TDY don't forget the always available podunk Texas outstations...can you say "ICE STORM". Screw the tie, but wear it on the ramp for your first few months there. Have fun and don't park in Hazlett's parking space!

| ![]() Also, Hootie was kidding. Hazlet loves when you park in his spot - gives him a real laugh. I would suggest volunteering for the DAL-Pampa TDY assignment, lots to do in Pampa! |
