I've heard this before and wanted to know if it's true...if you are a current employee of FedEx or UPS and you meet their minimums, doesn't that garuntee you a pilot job when they come open, over outside applicants? Also is it true the want you to have experience flying over oceans?

It does not ''garuntee'' or guarantee you a job, but it MAY get you an interview. I believe UPS removed the pond crossing requirement. There's a guy on here who flies for UPS, he would know better about that.

Thanks snuggle. I'm pretty new to aviation. I had finally come to grips with the fact that I couldn't fly because of my slight color blindness. But a trip to my local eye doctor to get my eyes checked turned out to be a life changing event....he had an FAA alternate color test I could actually pass: the keystone. It hit my like a ton of bricks. I'm dreaming again and that passion is burning inside once again. I was born to be in the air. I have 2 years to finish my college degree. I've changed my plans and decided not to pursue pharmacy school. Aviation is my passion. I worked for FedEx before, maybe be working for them agian very soon, and I do hope that some of the contacts I've made there will help me out. I love purple, though I guess I could make the change to brown too. I'm 24 and it feels like I'm running behind. I know I have a long road ahead to get there. I look forward to getting to know you guys and participating in many conversations here. Ryan |

I think Fedex has a deal where, if you meet the mins, AND, are a current employee, you are guaranteed an interview. The trick is having 1000 TPIC, keeping current, and somehow still working as a sorter for Fedex, or whatever. UPS has no such deal, that I'm aware of. The 500 hours of overwater experience thing was earlier in the year when the new hires were all going to Anchorage on the MD11, and (rumor is) the FAA said we needed to raise the bar for a while. Not sure if that requirement will be around next time they open the window, but I'd think if you DID have that kind of experience, it would look really good.

As for box throwers/drivers/etc: Have to be currently employed by FEDEX Express not any of the other FEDEX companies (ie, ground, kinkos, et cetera) for min of 1 year and be recommended by Supervisor (good record), and as stated above have the mins and it is only for interview... | |
