That's right, I'm done flying laps around the pattern, and on to flying boxes late at night. I start at Martinaire next week flying the mighty Cessna Caravan. I can't wait.

Currently I'll be sitting standby out of DFW, but I'll be getting around covering for vacation, sick pilots, broke airplanes, ect.

Don't know much about Martinaire. Caravan is a good airplane. You can have alot of fun in it. She can also get you in a lot of trouble in the upcoming months. I made a post somewhere on here a few weeks ago about the number of current/former caravan drivers on this website. There are alot of us on here so feel free to ask any questions you might have. Fly safe. OOTSK

Holy Cow, what's with CFIs these days. I had one of my coworkers ask me if I'm going to start out as a copilot in the C208. When I replied that it would be all night single pilot IFR, his eyes bugged out of his head. He told me that he would never want to do that, and I was a brave man. He then asked me if they all had GPS. I replied that some did, but most were /A with HSIs, RMIs, and autopilots with flight dirrectors (I can already hear Loyd telling me that he flew with much less at his old job). He couldn't belive it. Personally, I can't wait to get real world experiance, but everybody else thinks I'm nuts. Of course, these are the same CFIs who cancel lessons for winds like 13/G19 down the runway.

| My CFI mentioned that about your previous employer. Wonder why that is? His rule is, if it's legal, we go.

As to the original poster, good luck and be safe. I got two winters in the van, you'll be fine. Just remember don't trade airspeed, you won't get it back. | |

Welcome aboard. Remember - now that you're flying freight, there's no such thing as not starting an engine because it's "too cold". ![]() Congrats . . . you're gonna frigging love it!

[quote=mnixon;730777]More often than not that mantra is true, but sometimes it will get you into trouble. The best thing your first freight job will teach you is your personal, oh crap point. You'll know it when you hit it, and you'll never go there again. Just because it's legal, don't mean it's safe. ![]() I have never seen anybody describe like this before, but there is SO much truth to that statement. Its so not funny when you hit that point, but so funny when you look back....Good luck, stay safe. |

| Congrats! I see a bunch of Martinaire caravans just sitting around in KSAT, never seem to be flown! Is it a lack of pilots or what? :P

I wonder. I was out at Castorville BSing on the ramp when some dude drove up asking if I needed a job flying 135 stuff. I asked who the outfit was and he said..."Martinaire." Sounds like a fun and challenging gig...good luck and congrats!

I've heard from alot of people that our jet's just collect dust at various airports. Fact is between 1am-5am most of our fleet is airborne.
