Default Freight Dawgin.........

IS A BLAST!!!!!!!!!

I wasnt excited about working on my day off, but after a long day and night of flying, it was so worth it...Had to leave GSP at around 5ish to go to IND to pick up freight bc one of our other airplanes got hit with a forklift....So they used us on our day off to cover, not happy but no biggy....Go from IND-IKV drop off, then from IKV-SLN........And that was an interesting leg.....

Big thunderstorm system out there in we had to pick our way through it and finally made it to SLN....WX on the field was reporting wind 160@18G70.....It wasnt that bad tho...Dropped the rest of the stuff off, fueled up and forgot to get our free steaks! UGH

Then off on our next leg bc the plane needed an inspection and we woulda gone over it had we gone from SLN-GSP....The winds were in our favor and had 50knots on the tail which is the only reason we coulda made it that far. Had to come back to IND tho to get the inspection done and im sitting here right now waiting on that to be finished....Leaving here shortly and going back to GSP only to shower and get on a plane again but at least im going home....Anyway after a LONG day and about 11 hours of flying, my day is finally over....(3 part 91 legs so yes we are "legal" but yes I am tired)

This is great experience and to anyone thinking about doing freight, its worth it....Long nights but in the end its worth it and a blast!!

That's the way to get it done, Baby. It's a lifestyle that many are afraid of and that most can't hack.

I remember it now . . . (minus the Pt. 91 legs . . . we didn't do too much of that crap - we had MX everywhere!!).

How is SLN doing these days?

Flying frieght is without a doubt a blast!! I can't even begin to tell you how much I have learned, and how much my piloting skills have improved since I started flying freight.

You won't see me flying on my days off though.

I'm also curious. I am very interested in flying freight.

What are the pros and cons, compared to regionals?

And how different is the pay?

Thanks!

Mostly

Pretty broad questions as there are a variety of freight companies who have different work rules, schedules, aircraft types, and pay.

I'd recommend taking a couple hours and just perusing the freight forum. You'll find TONS of great info about freight life in general, and specifics on various companies. Then it would probably be easier to answer more specific questions.

In short though, many of the people who fly/flew freight enjoy(ed) their jobs. And for the most part, the pay ranges from "not horrible" to "okay."
