I was just wondering what you guys thought about the raise? It really helps the new guys and totally screws the older guys. It works well for me but i can't help but feel bad for the senior guys. I'll be making the same hourly as someone in the same seat position who has been here for 4 years. there is something wrong with that. What are your thoughts?

I think people need to realize the point of the raise. It's to keep the new guys there. They focused the raise on the group of pilots that bails. The purpose of the new pay scale wasn't to help the pilots out it was to improve pilot retention in the 2-5 year timeframe.

The thing is, it seems the money is pretty close either way, so I would think in order to drum up their recruiting efforts they need to show how Airnet is different, and better, than working at a regional. Hiring into your choice of a base is huge benefit, for example. In part this is up to the company, if Airnet "takes off" with customers and can position itself as a leader in overnight delivery services, can buy some bigger planes, and have an outlook similar to DHL, the number of applicants will probably jump.

Jerry had an opportunity in the late 80s to fly the Fairchild Expediters that DHL Airways operated and wanted to outsource to a feeder airline. DHL Airways asked US Check to take over the flying of the Expediters but Jerry said no and DHL then signed a deal with Ameriflight to fly the planes for them. US Check/Airnet tried to get into the overnight parcel sector years ago with "Time Express". It was a flop. Too bad it didn't take off, would have been cool to have our new radio call sign of "Timex".

Also, their marketing/ advertising did focus on the difference from flying for regionals. Almost a little too much at times. Now it looks like they're going towards higher pay and no mins as a strategy, which is fine, but those future starcheckers who are going to SIC for 800 hours ain't gonna see a lick of that higher pay for a while. On a personal note about the pay - you really can't beat showing up for your first week of class and being told you're already getting a pay raise!

That being said, there are a lot of senior/semi-senior pilots that are not happy about the raise due to the seniority issues. Even some of the lower seniority guys are unhappy with the principle regardless of the fact that they are getting a decent raise themselves. It is just another management/labor dispute. Edit: To answer the question, I am happy to get a raise (who wouldn't be happy to make more money?).

I'm happy too, now I can renew my Maxim subscription. The "U" word, that's going to be like a swear word about LCK this week.

All I'm saying is, if it works out that a first year guy is making more than I am, or the same amount, I'll be expecting a cash donation every other Friday to even it out. I guess seniority just doesn't fit AirNet's lifestyle, at least this week.
