They're PFTers. Any Ameriflight SIC you find, save for the EMB-120 and Lear FO's are all PFTers. The program is run through eagle jet.

If you're looking for an SIC program for someone, Airnet is hiring them and we actually pay them to take up space.

I would never recommend the Amflight SIC program to anybody. Ever.

It's a different operation. We're a single pilot operation, Gulfstream requires the second guy to be there.

The PFTers at Amflight are not taking anybodies job.

Then how do they log it, if they are not needed?

It's kind of complicated. It's legit SIC time, because they have a part 135 IFR SIC checkout, but they can be bumped for cargo. It's legal, but complicated to really understand how it happens.

Can you post that in general topics? I'd love for more people to see this.

It's legal dude - and it's on the up and up. AirNet does the same thing except they pay their SICs. The regs fully support it, though like jtrain I don't feel like digging out the regs and explaining it all. (Not that'd I'd do a decent job - it's all new stuff to me - current pt 135 guys might do a better job at it).

Most of the guys doing the SIC program are foreign and use it to build time to go and fly in their own countries. So they are not really getting a real job at AMF.

With that being said...I'm not a fan of the program. Some of those guys get more in the way more than anything. I don't fly with them. I'd rather have my crap in the right seat anyways.

As the PIC I guess you could leave them on the ramp. You'd probably be involved in a pretty serious carpet dance, but the company couldn't force you to fly with them.

As PIC you delegate what they can do. So if you don't like them they run the radio and checklist or nothing at all just look for traffic. You also get paid per hour they fly with you $5.

This web page has an article explaining the legality of the AirNet SIC program.

Because they are not required, by the FAR's. Also as the PIC you can leave them behind for whatever reason. I chose not to fly with a "certain person" and didn't hear one peep about it. Most of the time I'd rather have the money, but if the guys sucks or is an a-hole then most guys would just ditch them.

When I was in SLC some captains would put "NO F.O." next to their name on the schedule and that was that. Most of the F.O.'s I'd ever seen always asked permission to join a flight. Personally, if the guy/gal had a good personality I didn't mind the company. Some of foreign guys got to be a bother with radio communication skills, but I understood that they were here to build time and learn, so I did my best to help them out. There was only one SUPER 'Jo FO that drove me nuts... Never had the heart to kick him out, though.

I didn't care if they were there to learn and build time. I was there to work - not teach. I spent 14 months flight instructing to build my time so I didn't have to go through the agony of watching someone fumble through checklists and stare at the panel with an empty gaze. I said screw it " NO FO!" It's a joke. I was just flying with a captain that does interviews at the airline and he was asking me about the whole SIC program and what I thought about it. He agreed that kind of time is pretty much worthless. He's had a few people he interviewed with that kind of time and decided to not hire them based on that fact. It's a friggin joke. Maybe I'd fly with them just to beat the crap out of them in the air for being such tools!!
