| Well, I went off to Airnet training last month as some of you might recall and it didnt go as I had hoped. The week they had us in class wasent too bad and I learned a ton of new stuff. Then came the sim. All the procedures they have you memorize before class seemed to go out the window for the first flight in the sim. After a couple hours of sitting in the thing the muscle memory kicks in and it gets alot easier except the whole pitch sensitivity thing. At first I thought it was quite dumb to have to chase the altitude the way we did (first time in an FTD was at the interview and that was it) but then I realized how fast my scan became. Then came the actual baron flying. The night we took off it was like -7F and that thing was like riding a rocket. The nose felt like it was straight up and my instructor kept telling me to pitch more for Vy-it was awsome! We did a hold and four approaches all within about twenty miles at 150 indicated so things went by REALLY fast. That night with all the Jetblue delays due to a cold front bringing in an ice storm-yeah we were flying in that, training. I never seen anything like it. The runways, the taxiways, the windsheild, everything was all iced over. I had a 20 knot crosswind as we broke out at about 400 feet. I had to lean over into my instructor to see through the hot plate and didnt put enough crosswind correction in. When we landing we had a fun slide. They gave me one extra flight where I finally felt as though I was getting the hang of it. I finally found the power settings that gave me all the airspeeds I needed, The procedures were starting to become second nature, I was getting comfortable with being dumped right in front of the FAF for the approaches and even had some nice crosswind landings. However, I just wasent smooth or comfortable enough be able to pass a 135 checkride. I think if I were to go back and did four more flights with them I wouldnt have a problem but of course we all have budgets. At about midnight they gave an airline ticket to where ever I needed and sent me on my way. I had worked as flight instructor last year and alot of my time was built teaching stalls and landings in a 152 and an Archer. I didnt have a CFII nor did we have a mulit engine airplane to instruct out of. In fact my 21.8 hous of multi was completed two years ago and before I came down for training I hadnt flown in three months. So I guess I was really behind the ball for such a training enviroment. Now time to vent a little-My interview with Airnet was back In September. They told me I would probably be in the class after next (about three to four weeks after I got the call). So I gave my boss a heads up and we planned on phasing me out. He hired another instructor and my lease ended in my apartment. By the end of October (now 6 weeks after the interveiw) I was told to expect a class date for the middle of November but it wasent confirmed. Out of money, no more apartment, and my replacement already in town I had to leave NC. I went to see a buddy in New Mexico where he had a little work for me fixing up a house. After thanksgiving I was told FOR SURE I would get a class date before the new year. Then I got an email saying they were all caught up on hiring and there would be no new classes until next year. I went home to Detroit to stay with my parents until I got a class date. Finally I got a confirmed class date the first week of January for Jan 22. I never got another job because I thought I was going into training in just a few weeks so I went into training limping finacially. In training one of the guys who had 135 mins already was interveiw two weeks before class. I was never able to get 135 mins and all the money I had saved up to do alot of flying for the training was washed away for living expenses. I have no money and basically no job leads as of right now. I am a little pissed off at the situation, I just wished I would have gotten more information so I could plan a lot better then just given the ol' "proly next class". But I do understand Airnet needs PICs and I still think they would be an awsome place to work for. Im going to try to get more Multi engine and instrument time and if nothing else is going on, Im gonna give Craig a call . |

| Old Skool | That sucks man. It's definetly one of the steepest learning curves out there. Pick your head up though and reapply in 6. |

| Sorry to hear that man. Don't get down on yourself. Like was said above, it's a steep learning curve going from the right seat of a 172 to the left seat of a Baron doggie-style, single pilot, in all kinds of weather, especially with only 22 hours of multi, 2 years ago. If you're still wanting to be a freight dawg, you might want to check into a place like Flight Express. You'd start in the 210, and then move up to a Baron. They pay pretty darn good, and I hear they are a good company to work for. Just a thought. Good luck! |

| Im sorry to hear that man. I kept trying to find you when I was in rick, but I never did. If you really want to work here try again in 6 months. I know plenty of people who didnt make it through the first time, came back after 6, and plowed right through training. |

| Sounds like tough times man. Things will get better. These are times in life where nothing is going your way. Look at it this way, you are still standing on two feet and have the power to do anything you put your mind to. Maybe you just weren't ready this time, but next time you will have twice the experience. It's rough out there, just gotta do what ever it takes. |

| Sorry to hear things didn't work out. Life, and the career, isn't always fair. I had many setbacks on my way to the left seat of a 767 at UPS. You need to perservere though it.

| There is always Flight Express! They will give you chance after chance after chance, because they are desperate for pilots. I know you'll be stuck in a 210 for a while, but it's an excellent confidence/skill builder. I'm so glad I went there.
