Default AMF - SLC

Hey Guys

Can anyone tell me what the runs are like in SLC ( weekly block times/layover venue etc)? Do you enjoy living in Salt Lake ? and what is the upgrade time (within the base) to the Metro ?

Cheers

Do a search on the block and layovers. Talked about much. I like SLC even though I'd rather live in a small town. Lots of outdoor activities. Upgrade? Seen it as low as two months before, recently it's been more than that. But why would you want to fly a hunk of junk like that? Always breaking down, can't fly in ice, reduced power settings.... on and on.

OK, wait for it......wait for it.......

Tinman, you are such a tool. Why don't you pick on someone your own size you big oaf! Geez. Can't even keep a tail on a rat and you have the nerve to talk smack about one of the most awe inspiring accomplishments in the field of aerospace engineering...

LOL... Ok, was that worth the wait?!

On a more serious note, give me a ring this weekend. Sorry I missed you on Friday. You need to come to SLC on Monday night. Rodizio's baby!

If you guys know the answer to his question, how about speaking up and filling him in? Remember your roots, how you were helped here, and pay it forward!

I went to SLC last Feb. and had a Metro by May. That isn't the case right now. I think the guys in the Metro class this week have been in SLC for at least 6 mo. Most of the big planes (metro/1900) are staffed right now.

You'll probably average 10-15 hours per week, depending on the runs. Plan on a 5am-8pm day, some layovers are good, some suck.

Living in SLC? I don't really care for it, but I'm from FL. It's a decent place. Lot's of outdoor stuff. Good restaurants. Nice people.

I thought I did.

Heck, I gave him the best answer out there, stay out of the metro !(And by stay out of the metro, I mean get into the 1900.)

Upgrade times are hard to judge. There are two guys in Metro class right now, one has been here 7 months and the other about a year. A girl that's taking her 1900 checkride next week, has been here over a year. With our current set of runs, that will staff us pretty well in the "big" airplanes once they are done. If more runs get upgraded from 99's to larger airplanes, then more people will get upgraded.

Another thing is that they've been hiring into the 99's here with fairly low time in the past 6-8 months. I've seen it already present a problem because when it comes time to upgrade, people either don't enough time- or more importantly/likely- experience, and are getting passed up. I don't think it's any big secret, but it should be mentioned that this isn't exactly like the airlines where any idiot gets a shot at upgrade once they are senior enough to hold it, whether they belong there or not.

So overall, I would guess that outstations aside, we probably have some of the quickest upgrades in the company. But don't come here and then be disappointed if it takes 6-8 months or more. Things are always changing.

As for Salt Lake, it's alright, especially if you are into outdoor activities. Cost of living is reasonable. I don't think the people here (as in the city, not talking about the base) are all that friendly. Half of them don't speak english, so brush up on your espanol. No shortage of crime and crappy neighborhoods, but that's no different than anywhere in that respect I guess. The city itself is strange, at least to an outsider from NY like me. Definitely NOT my first choice of places to live (and I even like outdoor stuff), but a great base. Good people/management, all turbine, etc.

Because it's a classic! Designed by idiots to be flown by geniuses! And by the way, the mx hangar didn't get nicknamed the "1900 museum" for nothing.
