I see that some freight outfits have jumpseat agreements. Just wondering if anyone commutes to work, or is that even possible in the 135 world?

Not at Amflight. I hear you can do it at Airnet.

There is a possibility of it happening at amf. It all depends on what is needed of you at the time. One of my crashpadders has just gotten it worked out where he's doing a week on and a week off. This is rare though. We only do out and backs here. So you would still need a place to stay near your base when you're working. He has a place to stay with us, so its really no big deal. |

You can do it at AirNet quite easily if you're on an 8/6 reserve. The other main schedules are 4/3 and 5/2. Not so easy on the body. I had a 4/3 and went home every 3 weeks or so. Didn't really have a problem but I literally slept 10 hours easily the night of day 4 after working 10 hours and then commuting home. It was a 4 hour commute from door to door. AirNet is in CASS and has a good pile of agreements with other airlines. Management looks down on commuting, though. I wouldn't even mention the C-word in an interview there.

I do it at Airnet. I have a crashpad at my base that I stay at during the week. I leave Monday morning to be in base 10 hours prior to departure, but I'm usually there well before that. I work all week, then end my run, change clothes and go to the terminal to catch a ride home. I get off work at 7 am Friday, and I'm home by 900 am with a hours change from est to cst. It works. Tough on the body, but DTW sucks and I try to spend as little time here as possible. My suggestions if your thinking of doing it are, pick a base that has a whole lot of flights. In my case SWA (the best airline to jump on in my own opinion) has 10 nonstops a day, and 7 of them get here in time for me to make my show. Always have a backup. I have a small line credit card to rent a car if need be and I have a time that if I'm not on a flight, I'm walking to the car rental counters.

Almost 95% impossible at AMF. But I did find a way in the system on one of the runs. It let me get TDY pay 24/7 in another state yet I was home more hours than if I was doing the 5am-9pm mon-fri thing at my home base.
